Sometimes orchestras program pieces to meet popular demand, and at other times, they program works to meet expectations or fulfill a sense of obligation. It's so easy to yield to inertia. Today, The Black Keys release their ninth studio album, “Let's Rock,” via Easy Eye SoundNonesuch Records. The record is a return to the straightforward rock of the singerguitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney's early days as a band. Auerbach says, “When we're together we are The Black Keys, that's where that real magic is, and always has been since we were sixteen.” “Let's Rock” has already received critical praise, with Paste saying, “If you want something you can crank up at backyard barbecues or in the car with the windows down, well, The Black Keys have two words for you, and they're in the album title,” and the Wall Street Journal adding, “The Black Keys have mastered the form of guitar-based music, and the craft at work on these dozen songs is something to behold.” The band also is featured in this Sunday's New York Times Arts & Leisure section and were profiled on CBS This Morning. The musical The Spitfire Grill was first produced Off-Broadway at the Duke Theatre in 2001. Written by James Valcq and Fred Alley, the musical is based on the 1996 film. The show presents us with a moment in the life of Percy Talbot, a young woman recently released from prison, and the residents of Gilead, where the Spitfire Grill is up for sale. The Spitfire Grill is a beautiful show that requires a strong cast and creative direction to truly come alive. David Grier is pleased to announce his newfull-length album, Ways Of The World, due for release on March 29, 2019. Hosted on Grier's label, Dreadnought Recordings, and co-produced with Brent Truitt (The SteelDrivers), the project unveils ten original songs penned by Grier as well as two century-old fiddle tunes that are revived with a new twist. This is also the first album to feature Grier on lead vocals. Last night, Renee Taylor won the annual The United Solo Special Award, which recognizes artists who have made significant recent contributions to solo theatre during the year, for her critically acclaimed autobiographical comedy MY LIFE ON A DIET. Along with Ms. Taylor, this year's nominees included Derek DelGaudio (In & Of Itself), Alison S. M. Kobayashi (Say Something Bunny!), John Lithgow (Stories By Heart), Chita Rivera (An Evening with Chita Rivera) and Bruce Springsteen (Springsteen on Broadway).

Mark Campbell is a DC native, and librettist of 28 operas, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera 'Silent Night,' which is currently playing at the Kennedy Center. Campbell has also written a number of musicals, and is currently working on multiple projects.
