Almost a year after its triumphant return to the stage at New York City Center, Ragtime is returning to Broadway. Shaina Taub and Ben Levi Ross have been along for the ride, playing real life activist 'Emma Goldman', and fictional anarchist 'Younger Brother' respectively. The duo took a break from rehearsals to check in with BroadwayWorld and tell us all about the strange, insistent music that will give us all something to think about in 2025.

Heathers is currently playing to sold out crowds at New World Stages, the off-Broadway complex on 50th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. It’s a New York City return for the teen musical with a relatively short turn-around time since the original off-Broadway premiere of Heathers opened in 2014.

Broadway’s Becky Gulsvig will return to Moorhead to direct Trollwood Performing Arts School’s 2026 Mainstage Musical, Disney’s Frozen. The production runs July 20–25 and July 28–August 1, 2026, at the Bluestem Amphitheater.

It's a true story. It's a dramatization about a man who moves to Marietta, Georgia, and is falsely convicted of murder. It's his journey of trying to prove his innocence, while simultaneously we see and follow this love story between him and his wife, Lucille.

“For Ren dance is his language.  It’s a form of self-expression – the only way he knows how to express himself and communicate.  When this is taken from him, he doesn’t understand why something so beautiful and alive as dance is not allowed.  He is fighting for self-expression and his very identity.” Actor, dancer, choreographer Tyler Hanes is describing the motivation of FOOTLOOSE’s protagonist Ren McCormack. Hanes, who has a storied resume that includes ten Broadway shows and countless regional credits, has returned to Maine State Music Theatre (which he calls “coming home”) to choreograph their new production of the 1998 musical, FOOTLOOSE, collaborating with director E. Faye Butler.

Brooklyn Film Festival (BFF) has announced the film lineup for its 28th edition, themed Pause. The 2025 edition will feature 36 World Premieres, 17 US premieres, 28 east coast debuts, and 44 first-time screenings in NY.

A recent Broadway revival has given a fresh new look to a story that’s worth telling. Parade first opened on Broadway in 1998 to positive reviews, but ran for only a few months despite winning Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. Its 2023 revival lasted a bit longer, playing for a limited run and earning two more Tony Awards and preceding a successful national tour. Parade has now made its stop at Broadway Sacramento and is charming audiences with its powerful score by Jason Robert Brown and heartfelt book by Alfred Uhry.

This summer, Blyth Festival will present the World Premiere of a new stage work from internationally acclaimed, best-selling author Emma Donoghue, THE WIND COMING OVER THE SEA.

Dear Readers, we live in divisive times. That’s no news to anyone. Our society is extremely polarized with many basing beliefs on fear, misinformation, and xenophobia while those in charge propagate that division by spreading lies. And that’s where shows like “Parade”, currently performing at the 5th Avenue Theatre, come into play.

Josefina López, the celebrated Mexican-American award-winning playwright and screenwriter best known for creating and authoring the play and co-authoring the film Real Women Have Curves, was an undocumented five-year-old immigrant when she migrated with her family from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the United States in 1974 to settle in Boyle Heights. And on April 27, she will be making her Broadway debut when Real Women Have Curves: The Musical opens on Broadway!

On Saturday, April 26, at 7:30pm, the San Francisco Symphony celebrates Music Director Laureate Michael Tilson Thomas's 80th birthday with a one-night-only performance.
