BWW Review: There's Only One BEN VEREEN: STEPPIN' OUT at The Catalina Bar & Grill
by Valerie-Jean Miller - Aug 20, 2018

'Razzle Dazzle 'Em' is what Ben does, innately; it's in his blood, it's in his soul. 'Steppin' Out' signifies going beyond what you have achieved thus far. Ben Vereen is an Evolved Entity that shares his evolutional journey with us, delightedly so... on both sides!! This past Saturday evening, I had the great pleasure to see Ben Vereen perform at the Catalina Bar & Grill. When I first heard where he would be, I wondered why he chose a Jazz Club. Now I know why. Ben Vereen not only has decades of hit Broadway Shows, TV Series, Nightclub Acts, Awards and Accolades to his repertoire, but from that he has still kept his initial joy and exuberance in performing, yet taken his showmanship to another level.

BWW Review: HIP HOP FILM FESTIVAL 2018 Brings Fresh Perspectives and Hot Talent to Harlem
by Cindy Sibilsky - Aug 13, 2018

The 3rd annual Hip Hop Film Festival was held, fittingly, at the historic National Black Theatre founded by Dr. Barbara Ann Teer who moved to Harlem in 1968 and saw that the once vibrant neighborhood was suffering from a sense of hopelessness after the losses of African American leaders Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and desperately needed a community space and cultural arts institution that would 'be reflective of the power, grace and excellence of a people' (according to her daughter and current CEO Sade Lythcott).

The Fourth Annual Harvard-Yale Cantata Comes to Feinstein's/54 Below
by A.A. Cristi - Aug 6, 2018

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, again presents a cast of Harvard and Yale grads in The Fourth Annual Harvard-Yale Cantata. Join us for a unique evening at Feinstein's/54 Below, with Team Harvard looking to avenge another lucky one-point victory by Team Yale, who won in HY III for the second year in a row by a score of 32-31. Last year wasn't a pure win for Yale, as they were buoyed by some great songs and performances from their Princeton teammates. Harvard was bogged down (they say) by being paired with Columbia. No excuses in HY IV, as we're back to a straight up Harvard v. Yale competition.

BWW Interview: Laughter That Cures All Ills: Dan Goggin and the Enduring Phenomenon of NUNSENSE
by Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold - Aug 1, 2018

' 'If laughter cures all ills, Nunsense will make doctors obsolete.' That is one of my favorite all time review quotes,' says Dan Goggin. 'Hearing an audience laugh and knowing you had something to do with it is one of the most rewarding experiences I can think of.' Despite the enduring international sensation Goggin's brainchild has become, the writer, director, and creator of a thirty-five-year musical theatre phenomenon and franchise that embraces seven musicals, three spin offs, television specials, a possible upcoming new television series, recordings, and an entire line of merchandise remains a bit bemused and amazed at his runaway success.

BWW Review: Touring Production Gives New Life to LES MISERABLES at DCPA
by Jon Bee - Jul 30, 2018

In the history of musical theater certain shows have had their place in time while others seem to transcend lifetimes. Parents bring their children to the same musical that their parents brought them to at their age and suddenly a new family tradition has started. The nice thing about traditions is that they grow and evolve, just like the latest show to come to DCPA: The new touring production of Les Miserables.

Gettysburg Community Theatre (GCT) the not-for-profit 501c3 community theatre located at 49 York Street in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present a musical perfect for the whole family, A Year With Frog And Toad, based on the children's books by Arnold Lobel. The performances will be 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm Sundays August 10-26, 2018 and tickets are available online at www.GettysburgCommunityTheatre.org or by calling 717-334-2692. Tickets can be purchased at the door if there are seats available. A Year With Frog And Toad is GCT's All-Senior Citizen Cast production for 2018. Past Senior Citizen productions at GCT have been Fiddler On The Roof, Once Upon A Mattress, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Nunsense. This production is made possible in part by grants from the Cultural Alliance of York County, The Robert C. Hoffman Trust held by the Adams County Community Foundation, and the Adams County Arts Council's Star Grant.
