While we've been stuck at home for the last year, Des Moines Playhouse has been working behind the scenes on something brand new. They have been chosen as part of the American Association of Community Theatre AACT New Play Festival. This opportunity has allowed them to produce the world premiere of 'Escaping the Labyrinth' by Thomas S. Hischak. While the journey around the world may be timeless, this production isn't and must close on October 24.

The national tour of MY FAIR LADY opens October 7th in Los Angeles at the Dolby Theatre, running through October 31st. On the morning of August 7th, 2021, a playlist of the 50th season of Kumu Kahua Theatre will be available to watch on YouTube until midnight on August 8th.

The theatre will continue to offer a digital representation of shows for those who have been watching across the state and world, or are otherwise unable to visit the theatre in person.  They'll also continue to present closed captioned digital performances, and digital shows will still be offered on a pay-what-you-will basis.

Our first three shows, coming back, are all very charming, just laugh-out-loud good nights in the theatre. I always believe that theatre is a place for society to kind of wrestle with feelings and come up with new ideas about how we can heal and change. It's also sometimes just a great night out. There's nothing wrong with going and laughing -- and I think coming out of the pandemic, that is what we're gonna want.

David Sabella may not be singing any songs from the musical Jekyll and Hyde, but that doesn't mean this isn't his moment... because it is. And he's going to make the most of it, while reclaiming his joy.
