The New Jersey Youth Symphony announced today it will present a concert Exploring Music, Technology and Communication: Together We Celebrate Youth Excellence and Leadership on Saturday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the West Side Presbyterian Church located at 6 South Monroe Street in Ridgewood.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents Rita Rudner on Thursday, April 7 at 7:30pm.  One of the country's top comedians, Rita Rudner brings her sharp wit, droll observations and genius one-liners to Samueli Theater. Emerging Artists Theatre has announced the line-up for the second week of their bi-annual New Work Series. The three-week festival runs March 21 to April 10 and showcases new musicals, dance pieces, solo shows and plays. Over 50 productions will be presented.

This April, the English National Opera's (ENO) Artistic Director Annilese Miskimmon will make her company directorial debut with a powerful new production of Poul Ruders' The Handmaid's Tale. New York City Ballet announced today the promotion of seven of the Company’s corps de ballet members.  Preston Chamblee, Ashley Hod, Emily Kikta, Isabella LaFreniere, Miriam Miller, Mira Nadon, and Emma Von Enck have all been promoted to Soloist in advance of the Company’s 2022 Winter Season.

On Thursday, January 20, I had the pleasure of seeing a phenomenal show that I have been waiting to see for about two years!   It was well worth the wait!  The ACT of Connecticut has struck gold with NICKEL MINES, an emotionally intense musical based on the true story of an Amish school shooting, perpetrated by an outsider, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on October 2, 2006.  The use of song, interpretive dance, and dialogue are all combined to tell the story.  It is not presented in a strict linear time sequence, yet it somehow brilliantly flows together in an ideal way, parts of the story taking place in 2011.   With book by Shannon Stoeke and Andrew Palermo, and music & lyrics by Dan Dyer, this show which is also directed and choreographed by Andrew Palermo stars an extremely talented ensemble cast, backed by an amazing live band.  The depth, power, messages, and entertainment value of this production are all so strong that it is difficult to put them into words.  Not only was I highly entertained, but by God’s grace, I feel like I left the show a better person than who I was when I entered, more focused on my own need to forgive others.

NICKEL MINES is a new musical centered around the 2006 Lancaster, PA Amish schoolhouse shooting in which a lone gunman shot ten girls (five fatally) before taking his own life. This breathtaking piece of theater explores multiple perspectives from that fateful morning, is a living memorial to the young girls who tragically lost their lives, and is a powerful exploration of community, perseverance, and hope.  

Page 73 has announced Marvin González De León as 2022 Playwriting Fellow, selected from a group of 10 semifinalists and three finalists for the 2022 Fellowship—narrowed from a pool of over 300 applicants.

Page 73 has announced 10 semifinalists for the 2022 Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship. From a pool of over 300 applicants, Page 73 has selected Melis Aker, Syreeta Briggs, Vichet Chum, Kate Douglas, Ryan Drake, Marvin González De León, Majkin Holmquist, Deepa Purohit, Gab Reisman, and Haygen-Brice Walker.

Historical themes have always been incorporated into stage shows, from classic Broadway musicals to contemporary productions. Contrary to what some may believe, not all historical-themed productions are old Broadway musicals. Several historical musicals have gone on to become classics, though this is not specifically a golden age musicals list.
