Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Announces New Season

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) today announces the details of its 2020-21 season. Titled Bridging the Ages, Co-Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han look to the work of Franz Schubert a?" whose music is the subject of CMS's Winter Festival a?" as the inspiration for the season. Schubert was the bridge from the Classical to Romantic age, connecting musical ideas between eras. Taken as a whole, the season will show how compositions from the earliest years of the chamber music repertory link to compositions in the middle and later years of the genre, leading to a dynamic musical presentation that encourages audiences to imagine the compositional voices of the future. The new season will also expand CMS's commitment to free digital access to chamber music through a new partnership with Tencent for the Chinese-language audience.

Jason Aldean To Perform At Bethel Woods On July 23

The York Theatre Company Will Present Two Special One-Night Only Events as Part of its 50th Anniversary Season

The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and rediscovery of musical gems from the past, as part of its 50th Anniversary season celebration, will present two special events during the month of January: A York Chat: '50 Years of The York,' first in a series of panel discussions, and a staged concert of the 1969 Broadway musical Celebration written by the legendary songwriting team Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Both special events will take place at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).

This two-disc anthology presents live recordings of 22 guest singers from 13 cultures of the world who have been featured in Paul Winter's solstice celebrations in the world's largest cathedral, New York's St. John the Divine, over the past 38 years.

Kennedy Center Announces Visual Art At The REACH

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its inaugural presentation of visual art to be featured at the REACH, the Center's 21st-century expansion project. Ten works in a rich diversity of media will be on display at the facility upon opening, including six pieces on loan from Glenstone Museum in Potomac, Maryland; sculptures by Joel Shapiro, Deborah Butterfield, and Roy Lichtenstein; and a wall hanging by Sam Gilliam. All works will be on view for the public beginning September 7, 2019.

Sarah Jaffe Announces New Companion EPs

Texas singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe has announced the release of her new companion EPs – This Is Better Part 1 & This Is Better Part 2 – due out July 19th via Kirtland Records. The songs across the two EPs came out of some intense writing sessions with producer and collaborator Aaron Kelley, who Jaffe first connected with to write music for films.  The two clicked and started working on songs together.  Over the weeks that followed Jaffe dug deep, writing songs that helped her deal with the emotions she was processing as a result of a recent heartbreak she was going through.  Originally planning to shop these songs around, Jaffe decided she couldn't part ways and wanted to record them for herself.

CROSSING THE LINE Festival 2019 Announced At FIAF

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Bridge Street Theatre Presents THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD

Coming this summer to Catskill's adventurous Bridge Street Theatre - its first attempt at producing a full-scale summer musical! But, true to form, it's a pretty off-beat one: Joy Gregory and Gunnar Madsen's acclaimed Off-Broadway hit "The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World". It is based on the true story of three sisters from rural New Hampshire whose father forced them to form a rock band, and who recorded an album back in 1969 which has since become a cult classic. "The Shaggs" will play for eight performances only, Thursdays through Sundays July 11-21, in BST's intimate 84-seat Mainstage.
