The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) (Scott Pyne, Executive Director and West Hyler, Producing Artistic Director) last night held the 2019 Benefit Concert honoring Grammy, Tony, and Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Kelly Devine, both alumni of NYMF. The Drama League announced today the 2020 line-up of DirectorFest: The 36th Annual Directors Festival, the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. For its 36th year, the festival will include six fully-staged productions, a showcase concert of a new musical, a town hall, and conversations with directors including 2017 Tony Award Winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent), 2014 Tony Award Winner and 2010 Drama League Founders Award for Excellence in Directing Kenny Leon (A Soldier's Play), and Intimacy Director Claire Warden (HBO's Mrs. Fletcher).

A recipient of DCA's inaugural CreateNYC Disability Forward Fund, IRT Theater will present six work in progress presentations of the new musical, Stepchild. This fully accessible piece is a radical retelling of Cinderella, seen through the eyes of a young Deaf woman coming of age in a kingdom violently intolerant of difference. All presentations will take place at IRT's Greenwich Village home from May 29- June 2, 2019.

The reading was the first of three benefit readings that mark the Playhouse's 80th anniversary.
