Cinema/Chicago today announced its annual free Summer Screenings Program with a selection of 17 feature films and one short film from around the world exploring the theme of adventure. All screenings are free and open to the public and take place on Wednesdays at 6:30pm from May 29 through October 2, 2019 at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington Street, 2nd Floor) in the Claudia Cassidy Theater. Summer Screenings is presented by Cinema/Chicago in partnership with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and 17 consulates and cultural institutions from around the city. Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage opening night is set to take place on Saturday, June 1st at the newly upgraded flagship venue in Central Park. The night will feature New York City native, the soulful R&B singer songwriter Emily King, along with developing artists and deep soul revival band Durand Jones & the Indications, Brooklyn-based singer songwriter Madison McFerrin, and DJ Reborn. The decision to leave Belltown was not made easily. The theater's board and directors knew that giving up their own space to become a nomadic theater was a risk that would come with many challenges, but the cost of occupying the Belltown space was rapidly increasing to more than the income from a 50-seat theater could sustain. Theater Schmeater's Board President Rachel Sorrels notes that Because we value our artists and the art we put on the stage above everything else, we are willing to take that risk and face those challenges. Acting artistic director Andrew Shanks calls this a time of change and renewal for us as a company.

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the first show of the 2019 Mainstage Season will be the World Premiere of THE PROMPTER (May 28- June 16) a new comedy by Wade Dooley; directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director. The other two previously announced shows will be the World Premiere of SAFE SPACE, which will now run from June 25 - July 21. This new play is by Alan Fox and will be directed by three-time Tony Award Winner Jack O'Brien (All My Sons, Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia). The third show will be a bold new re-envisioning of Irving Berlin's classic musical ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, (July 30 - August 25) with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields. This production will be directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Bay Street's Frost/Nixon). The casts and creative teams will be announced soon. DC's electro-pop breakout trio SHAED has announced a North American fall headline tour as they continue to gear up for their debut LP – due out later this year on Photo Finish Records. The band's hit single “Trampoline” became a GOLD-selling track in the U.S. this week following its two-week stay as the #1 Alternative Song in the country.  The track broke onto Billboard's Hot 100 last week (up 10 spots to #89 this week), holds the #2position on Rock Airplay, and continues to climb at Top 40, HOT AC, and AAA.  In a recentChart Beat feature, Billboard highlighted that “Trampoline” was the first female-fronted band in 16 years to take the #1 spot at Alternative (21 years since Hole's “Celebrity Skin” if you count songs with female-only vocals).

A SUMMER OF SPACEmultiplatform experience, anchored by the highly anticipated AMERICAN EXPERIENCE six-hour film “Chasing the Moon,” and including new science and history programs, will begin in July timed to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Apollo 11 moon landing. “Chasing the Moon,” written, produced and directed by Academy Award nominee Robert Stone, premieres Monday-Wednesday, July 8-10, 9:00-11:00 p.m. ET. Kentucky Shakespeare kicks off its 59th annual free Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park with a comedy, a history, and a tragedy. The season begins with their professional productions of As You Like It May 29th, then Henry IV, Part II June 13th, followed by King Lear on June 27th. July 9th-21st all three performances will be presented in repertory. The season will be dedicated to the late Bekki Jo Schneider, former Producer of Kentucky Shakespeare and founder Doug Ramey's immediate successor. Last year we lost our dear friend Bekki Jo. She was instrumental in helping make the company what it is today, not only during her tenure here as an actor and leader but for years after as a mentor to me and to so many others in our community. We dedicate this season to her as we celebrate her life and legacy, said Matt Wallace, Producing Artistic Director.
