The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today mourns the passing of Bill Small, former CBS News Washington Bureau Chief, NBC News President, United Press International President, and Chairman of the News & Documentary Emmy® Awards from 2000 to 2010. Theatre Royale has been touring Southern California presenting a Broadway-quality production of Disney's NEWSIES starting at the Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, CA on June 22 and ending in Fresno with two performances on July 13, 2019 at 2pm and 8pm. I can tell you after seeing the show at the Soraya at CSUN last weekend, I now understand why this high energy musical has been so popular with audiences since its 2012 Broadway opening where it was nominated for 8 Tony Awards and won two for Best Choreography and Best Original Score. There is something in it for everyone, with the kind of magnificently energetic dancing that ranges from ballet leaps to tap and every form of movement in between.

Every founder has a unique personal tie to the organization they bring to life. After 28 years of daily interaction with the Shotgun Players, Patrick Dooley and the theater he created can be hard to define as separate entities. Thanks to the O2 Sabbatical Award, Dooley will get a chance to discover that distinction with a well-earned break.  

Avante Garage Theatre Company, the award-winning company originally based in Nashville before its founders moved to New York City, will debut its first Los Angeles production this summer at The Avery Schreiber Playhouse in the NOHO Arts District:  the world premiere of The Favorite by Joe Correll, co-artistic director, along with Avante Garage founder Michael Bouson.
