Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, the 2013 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, is here this weekend only for a limited engagement with three performances left - Saturday night and two shows on Sunday - at the Fox Theatre in Detroit as part of the Fox Theatre Series. With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Cinderella combines the story's classic elements - glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball along with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn't let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She longs to escape the drudgery of her work at home and instead work to make the world a better place. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.

The Guthrie Theater (Joseph Haj, artistic director) today announced the nine productions of its 2019 2020 subscription season: Tennessee Williams' classic family drama The Glass Menagerie; Shakespeare's rollicking comedy Twelfth Night; an adaptation of Emma based on the Jane Austen novel; and Kander and Ebb's musical Cabaret will grace the Guthrie's signature Wurtele Thrust Stage while the McGuire Proscenium Stage's lineup will include Robert Harling's female-driven comedy Steel Magnolias; the regional premiere of Noura, Heather Raffo's complex tale of identity; Anne Bogart's acclaimed production of Euripides' The Bacchae; Karen Zacar as' comedic telenovela Destiny of Desire; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning Sweat.

FESTIVAL OF COLORS With Red Baraat and Vidya Vox Comes to The Soraya

The Boston Globe called Red Baraat's irresistible sound "new-breed marching-band music that's part Punjabi wedding, part New Orleans second line, and all New York." Led by the charismatic percussionist Sunny Jain, the Brooklyn octet whips up a raucously fun mix of Indian bhangra rhythms, go-go music, jazz, hip-hop, and Crescent City brass funk. For this special night-Thursday, March 28 at 8pm-the band presents Festival of Colors, celebrating the Hindu holiday of Holi, and will feature rising star Vidya Vox, who's music is a global fusion of Eastern and Western influences, infused with a fiercely original modern vibe.

Bay Street Theater Announces THE PROMPTER For The 2019 Mainstage Season

Bay Street Theater is pleased to announce the first show of the 2019 Mainstage Season will be the World Premiere of THE PROMPTER (May 28- June 16) a new comedy by Wade Dooley; directed by Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director. The other two previously announced shows will be the World Premiere of SAFE SPACE, which will now run from June 25 - July 21. This new play is by Alan Fox and will be directed by three-time Tony Award Winner Jack O'Brien (All My Sons, Hairspray, The Coast of Utopia). The third show will be a bold new re-envisioning of Irving Berlin's classic musical ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, (July 30 - August 25) with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, book by Herbert & Dorothy Fields. This production will be directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George, Bay Street's Frost/Nixon). The casts and creative teams will be announced soon. Ever since WAITRESS first premiered at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 2015 and soon after on Broadway in 2016, audiences have fled to see this wonderful show. The original movie opened in 2007 and was written by the late Adrienne Shelly. It became widely successful and soon after a creative team was assembled in 2013. Sara Bareilles was a star in her own right by this time and she is responsible for the wonderful music and lyrics of this well-done musical. With Jesse Nelson writing the book, she wrote the story using unfinished scripts by Adrienne Shelly to bring Ms. Shelly's voice into the project.

To the delight of her fans, the 10th anniversary special engagement of Storm Large's autobiographical, one-woman rock musical Crazy Enough goes on sale to the public on Jan. 4. Crazy Enough broke records at The Armory in 2009 with a sold-out, 21-week run. Beginning with stories of a childhood complicated by her mother's schizophrenia, Large takes us through the ups and downs of the years that follow - sex, drugs, running away to California, and the saving grace of rock 'n' roll.  Crazy Enoughfeatures original songs by Large and James Beaton, including the hilarious and incredibly catchy "My Vagina is Eight Miles Wide." It will be directed by Daniel Stern with original music director Beaton on the U.S. Bank Main Stage. Crazy Enough will open on Large's 50th birthday.
