As we hit the unofficial start of summer, overall the trends are looking up for Broadway and the broader theatre industry. That isn’t to say there aren’t ongoing challenges: ever-shifting health and safety protocols, continued reports of toxic work environments that need to be sorted, and a major shift in how audiences are buying tickets.

Joshua Henry will head the cast of Brave New World: The Musical (as World Controller Thomas Mond) for an invitation-only industry reading on May 23rd in Midtown Manhattan. Joining Henry will be Solea Pfeiffer, Ephraim Sykes, and more.

With Marina Carr's Girl on an Altar about to begin previews, Kiln Theatre announces the full cast for the world première of Zodwa Nyoni's The Darkest Part of the Night. Nancy Medina directs Brianna Douglas, Andrew French, James Clyde, Hannah Morrish, Lee Phillips and Nadia Williams.

MCC Theater announced today that due to breakthrough positive COVID cases in both companies, performances of Which Way to the Stage and soft have been cancelled through Sunday May 15, 2022. 

New York Stage and Film returns July 9-August 7 for five weeks of in-person programming in Poughkeepsie for their 2022 Summer Season.  For 38 years, NYSAF has operated as a vital incubator for artists and their work, a catalyst for stories that continue across the country and around the world.  All tickets are $25 and go on sale June 1.

This June, Last Call Theatre, a new immersive theatre company based in Los Angeles, presents Signals at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Signals is a sci-fi immersive experience where the audience will have a direct impact on the outcome of every performance. With several changing and branching paths for audiences to explore, each performance will be totally unique.

The new offering directly follows up their collaboration with SIPPY, ‘Who’s In Charge’, from earlier last month. New York punk rock/art pop songwriter Shilpa Ray will release her new album Portrait of a Lady via Northern Spy. Today she drops a new single, the leather-clad strut “Lawsuits And Suicide.” Shilpa teamed with director Kimberly Haven to shoot a video for the single. Shilpa is currently touring the U.S. with July Talk.

New York Stage and Film will welcome Mallom Liggon as the new Director of the Filmmakers’ Workshop. NYSAF is also announcing the 9 early-career film and TV writers who have been selected to participate in the 2022 Filmmakers Workshop.

The highly anticipated Broadway revival of Funny Girl is beginning performances tonight, March 26, at the August Wilson Theatre, ahead of an official opening on April 24. Meet the cast bringing this iconic show back to the stage!
