City Theatre at Sacramento City College continues its 2019-20 season with Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play.

Two years ago, Roger Q. Mason paid tribute to Billy Porter, the 2018 recipient of the Chuck Rowland Pioneer Award, by performing in a reading of Porter's semi-autobiographical play, As I Yet Live. Now, 2020 is Mason's year - and he is kicking it off, following in Porter's fabulous footsteps, as this year's Chuck Rowland Pioneer Award recipient.  The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 7:30 pm at the West Hollywood Council Chambers (625 N San Vicente Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069).  Details of the program will be announced in the coming months.

Berkshire Opera Festival (BOF) has announced its Fifth Anniversary Season production of Mozart's iconic opera Don Giovanni, to be presented at the historic Colonial Theatre (Pittsfield, MA) August 22, 25, and 28, 2020. The opera, based on the legend of Don Juan, is one of Mozart's supreme achievements - and considered by many to be one of the greatest operas ever composed.

Two River Theater is now presenting William Shakespeare's romantic comedy 'Twelfth Night' directed by Sara Holdren with original songs composed by the band/theater collective, The Lobbyists. Performances will be in Two River's Rechnitz Theater through Sunday, February 2. Broadwayworld.com had the pleasure of interviewing Hannah Rose Caton who plays Viola in the show.

Casting has been announced for the upcoming New York City premiere of Leaving the Blues, a new play by Jewelle Gomez, directed by Mark Finley. Rosalind Brown (original Broadway productions of Footloose and One Mo' Time) will play the lead role of Alberta Hunter, the great American jazz singer and songwriter. The cast also features Michael Michele Lynch, Joy Suddath, Cooper Sutton, Benjamin Mapp, Ameerah Briggs, Tsebiyah Mishael Derry and Erik Ransom.

Tim Baker had a big 2019, releasing his debut solo album, Forever Overheard, in spring on Arts & Crafts, heading out on multiple tours across North America.  Today he celebrates it all with a stunning video for “The Eighteen Hole”, shot in Baker's native Newfoundland, directed by Adrian Vieni and Amos Le Blanc.  The video outlines the fractures that can happen in relationships, with Vieni describing the ethos as, “an intimate study of human emotion and connection.  It acts as a time capsule, capturing the profound impact others have on us throughout our lives, and the shared experiences that connect us.  With each moment, we're reminded of the choices we've made, the trajectory we've taken, and people we've met that haave shaped us into who we are today.”

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre has announced today that next year's magical family pantomime will be CINDERELLA - a spectacular new production, produced by the team at the theatre from Saturday 5 December 2020 a?' Sunday 10 January 2021. Tickets will be on sale from Monday 16 December 2019 to members and Wednesday 18 December to the public.

Tony-nominated composer Paul Gordon is one of those rare musical theater creators who, like Lin-Manuel Miranda, can write the whole show a?" book, music and lyrics. Gordon's latest work is the musical a?oePride and Prejudicea?? soon to start its world premiere run at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley. He has formed a close relationship with the company over the years, including hit productions of his shows a?oeJane Eyre,a?? a?oeEmma,a?? a?oeBeing Earnest,a?? and a?oeDaddy Long Legs.a?? Interestingly, Gordon initially found success as a composer of pop music writing for, and collaborating with, numerous recording artists, including Bette Midler, Quincy Jones, Alanis Morissette, Smokey Robinson and Dionne Warwick. An abiding love for musical theater led to a fortuitous meeting with esteemed director John Caird that opened up a whole new career for Gordon. BroadwayWorld caught up with him while he was still in the thick of the rehearsal process for his new show, which can be a very stressful time. In conversation, Gordon appeared surprisingly calm as he chatted about the development of a?oePride and Prejudicea?? and his plans to build new audiences for musical theater.

Two River Theater, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, will kick off the new year with Shakespeare's romantic comedy Twelfth Night, directed by Sara Holdren with original songs composed by the band/theater collective The Lobbyists. First Stage's Young Company, the Theater Academy's award-winning training program for advanced high school actors, will present William Shakespeare's THE WINTER'S TALE as their first Performance Project for the 2019/20 season. Directed by Marcella Kearns, the play explores multiple facets of the human condition - from false assumptions and lost children to truths revealed, redemption found and the appearance of marvelous wonders. As one of Shakespeare's late plays, it tells the story of wandering and separation leading eventually to tearful and joyous reunion. Sponsored by United Performing Arts Fund.

The Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) celebrated its 39th anniversary with more than 480 members of the community at the 2019 Legacy Awards Gala at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City on November 13.

New Village Arts presents AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, written by Laura Eason, from the novel by Jules Verne. Directed by NVA Executive Artistic Director Kristianne Kurner, this production will feature original music from San Diego's own Pirate-themed folk-rock band, The Shantyannes (Joseph Freeman and Renee Moreno), with arrangements by Tony Houck, who also serves as Music Director for the production. This is an exciting, witty, and action-packed new adaptation of the classic story.

Midsommer Flight's popular perennial intimate production of Shakespeare's TWELFTH NIGHT, performed alley style amid the flowers of the Lincoln Park Conservatory's beautiful Show House Room, will return with a new cast for its fifth year. Roberts, who earned raves for his staging of the company's 2017 production, will return to helm the 2019 edition.
