Carnegie Hall Presents MY CITY, MY SONG Family Concerts On May 11

On Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., three vibrant New York City-based artists will perform in Zankel Hall as part of My City, My Song, an interactive Family Concert celebrating music from around the world. The concert features jazz standards performed by vocalist Brianna Thomas, the percussive rhythms of Puerto Rican bomba and plena music from father-daughter duo Juan Gutierrez and Julia Gutierrez-Rivera (with fellow musicians from Los Pleneros de la 21), and samba from Brazil's Carnival with singer-songwriter Fabiana Masili. Free pre-concert activities are offered one hour prior to each performance, preparing parents and children to sing and dance along with the artists.

Now over 20 million albums into their career, there can be no doubt as to why The B-52s remain one of rock music's most beloved and enduring bands. As The B-52s continue to celebrate their 40th Anniversary, the band announced a world-wide tour today that is expected to cover more than 10 countries and will include a headlining North American summer tour, including a stop at the Majestic Theatre (224 E. Houston St.) in San Antonio, TX on August 21, 2019 at 7PM. Special guests OMD and Berlin will open the show. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 12 at NOON.

Andrew Dykstal, a writer from Arlington, VA, has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 35th Annual Writers of the Future, and Aliya Chen, an illustrator from Fair Oaks, CA has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 30th Annual Illustrators of the Future L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards for Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests in the genres of Science Fiction & Fantasy held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, CA on Friday evening, April 5, 2019.  A capacity crowd of 400 people attended the Black-Tie GALA. Presented by Author Services, Inc. and Galaxy Press, the theme for the two-hour awards show was Retro Robotics.

Fringe Festivals all around the world have been an essential proving ground for thousands of independent performers from a wide array of disciplines, since the very first Edinburgh Fringe in 1947. Many distinguished former participants of the San Francisco Fringe Festival have built theatre careers from Fringe foundations, including Mark Jackson, Beth Wilmurt, Cutting Ball Theater Company, Thrillpeddlers, Boxcar Theatre, The Kilbanes, and internationally-acclaimed Banana Bag & Bodice. From September 5-14, 2019, we'll be welcoming 21 local and national performing companies to our Tenderloin Theatreplex to perform their work at our 28th annual San Francisco Fringe Festival. Full schedule of showtimes will be released on www.sffringe.org by July, 2019.

More to the Story: Asian American Women Journalists Respond brings together five highly accomplished writers, critics, producers, and editors to share their insights on the shifting landscape of journalism and their roles as cultural arbiters. Panelists Dawn Chen, Jennifer Kho, Diep Tran, Junko Tsunashima, and moderator Lilly Wei will discuss their personal journeys within their chosen fields as well as provide insights to those interested in entering (and staying in) journalism. Like their debut, '1983 - the radical 80s dance party in June 2018 that paid homage to the late great Pyramid Club - this immersive theater event will be held at the 12,000 square-foot Plaxall Gallery.
