On Monday, March 2, at 6 p.m. Asolo Repertory Theatre welcomes audiences to its new 'black box'-style theatre for The German Party, the inaugural production of the new Asolo Rep Ground Floor Series. Florida Studio Theatre (FST) presents the World Premiere of Paralyzed by Etan Frankel, a striking story of guilt, personal responsibility, and the power of forgiveness. In this dramatic new play, the discovery of a mysterious suicide note in Georgia hotel bathroom sets two strangers' lives in unforeseen directions. This production marks the first World Premiere presented as part of FST's Stage III Series. Paralyzed runs from March 18 to April 10 in FST's Bowne's Lab Theatre. McCoo and Davis launched hits including 'Up, Up and Away,' 'Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In,' 'Worst That Could Happen,' 'Stoned Soul Picnic,' 'Sweet Blindness,' 'Wedding Bell Blues' and 'One Less Bell to Answer.' On Monday, February 24, artists and supporters of Florida Studio Theatre (FST) flocked to its downtown campus for FST's annual fundraiser, the Dangerous Ladies Shindig. Long-time FST supporter Marie G. Kropp chaired the event, and Gulf Coast Community Foundation supported the Shindig as its lead sponsor. With exclusive live entertainment, the presentation of the distinguished Spelman Award, and a plated three-course dinner, FST's Dangerous Ladies Shindig was a not-to-be-missed event for many of the greatest supporters of the arts and contemporary theatre in Sarasota.
WBTT's Young Artist Program Opens Season With Derric Gobourne Jr.

His phone won't stop ringing (and he's not exactly able to answer) so she picks up the phone down the proverbial rabbit hole she goes. Sarah Ruhl penned the romantic comedy that Peter Amster will direct. The show will run in the Cook Theatre through March 8, with a pay-what-you-can (minimum $5, day of performance) preview night on February 18.

Florida Studio Theatre Receives Grant From The National Endowment For The Arts

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) announces that it has been approved for a $15,000 Art Works grant to support The Suffragist Project: Celebrating 100 Years of the Woman's Right to Vote. In honor of this historic milestone, The Suffragist Project has brought together over 60 community partners, each creating their own artistic, cultural, and educational programming. As part of FST's contribution to The Project, the theatre has launched Historically Speaking, an educational touring program; commissioned four playwrights to develop new plays inspired by the movement for women's suffrage; and created an original devised play. The grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) will support these artistic initiatives, as well as FST's Dangerous Ladies Festival, a weekend-long culminating celebration in August 2020 of the new theatrical work created over the course of The Project.

The Hermitage Artist Retreat, in collaboration with the Greenfield Foundation, has selected New York-based artist Jennifer Packer as the winner of the 2020 Greenfield Prize, given this year in the field of visual art. Packer will receive a six-week residency at the Hermitage and a $30,000 commission for a new work, which will premiere in Sarasota in 2022 with the Hermitage's presenting partner, The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
