Join us for a special evening as we present "Tribute to the Mambo" with special guest saxophonist/flautist Mitch Frohman! Mr. Frohman and the Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble will be presenting both classic and original repertoire paying homage to the classic New York Salsa and Latin Jazz scene during its golden era. The concert also features a special Mambo dance performance!

A seven time Grammy winner, Mr. Frohman literally "lived" the New York Salsa/Latin Jazz scene through his 25-year stint as a key member of the legendary Tito Puente Orchestra as also as part of the Mongo Santamaria band for many years. He is now a bandleader in his own right as a founder of the Mambo Legends Orchestra and as a leader of his own Latin Jazz Quartet, which released a critically acclaimed CD "From Daddy With Love".

Mr. Frohman is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the idiom, having been awarded Latin Jazz USA's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. He has collaborated with all of the greats - Celia Cruz, Joe Cuba, Chico O'Farrill, Machito, Eddie Palmieri, and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra - to name just a few! You've probably heard his signature sound on commercial recordings also, such as the theme song from Sex In The City, Paul Simon and Cyndi Lauper.

Don't miss this special chance to hear this legendary music directly from the source! .

The event takes place at Stanford's Dinkelspiel Auditorium on the Stanford campus on Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 PM. Advance tickets are available online for $32 general/$27 students and seniors. In addition, the concert is free to Stanford students with valid SUID. For tickets, visit our website at http://latinjazz.stanford.edu and follow the "Buy Tickets" button.

Founded in 2008 four time Grammy nominated pianist and director Murray Low, the Stanford Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble is dedicated to the study, performance, and interpretation of Afro-Latin music and its fusion with North American jazz. The ensemble is considered one of the finest academic performing groups of its kind.
