Octet at Live Oak Theater

In a church basement, eight internet addicts lock their phones in a box and gather for a support meeting. Their confessions and attempts at connection reveal the profound, overwhelming ways technology shapes our lives—all set to the haunting, analog sound of eight voices in harmony. Inspired by internet comment boards, scientific debates, religious texts, and Sufi poetry, Octet is a gripping a cappella masterpiece by Tony Award-nominated composer Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812), soon to be a star-studded feature film directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Unique, powerful, and more timely than ever, Octet explores addiction, connection, nihilism, and hope in the digital age. Content advisory: Octet contains profanity and discussions of self-harm, mental illness, and p*rnography.
