Madalyn Merkey, Roco Córdova, Chandra Shukla, Syrnx at Peacock Lounge

Madalyn Merkey The open pace of Merkey's music seems organic, natural, alive so much so you may forget the oscillating highspeed circuits she employs behind the scenes to generate and shape that pace. When, within the weave of her sound there appears a warp of voice, an instrument you might expect to feel the most natural, instead it comes as a wondrously alien element the way the color green is both grass underfoot and UFO suspended ominously above. It's not enough to see and hear, Merkey's audience must smell and taste and touch and dream and laugh and remember and change. Merkey has performed solo computer music compositions at Yale Union, Issue Project Room, and Block Cinema, designed sound installations for Robert Irwin’s Central Garden at the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and now invites you to the excellent sound space inside The Bindery. https://madalynmerkey.bandcamp.com/

Roco Córdova Their music has been described as "slow-boiling, apparently timeless" with "an odd momentum of its own" in the Washington Post. But that was just one gig, sure it was as part of the Art Ensemble of Chicago at Kennedy Center, each such concert is a singular experience and to hear Córdova in the Peacock Lounge Gold Room will be an unguessable experience. Throat singing, overtone singing, falsetto, yodeling, vocal clicks and pops melded with electronic processing open the mind through the aperture of the ear to expand the connectedness of literature, dance and visual arts with realities of migration, colonialism, geopolitics and gender. https://soundcloud.com/rococordova

Syrnx Fire fight with light, light fire with fight! In darkness there's no time to think, more minimal than reductive reason, shrink to hide the insideout, enlarge past sight with the cryptic solo stylings of Yasi Perera heretofore performing as Syrnx foretohere alighting in the Peacock on a wisp of spider silk. Do not miss this super rare light, shadow, sound show of pure post-person fire. https://youtu.be/9YsGewMn6gE
