French Kiss is a triple bill presented by Smuin Contemporary Ballet featuring Amy Seiwert's French Kiss (2023), a world premiere by My'Kal Stromile titled I-SCRIT-AH-SCREE-TAH-SKRATT, and Michael Smuin's Stabat Mater (2002). Seiwert's French Kiss translates 1960s-era cocktail songs as interpreted by Pink Martini into spatial compositions and inventive partnering, with costumes by former Smuin dancer Susan Roemer. Stromile's world premiere explores the mind as a shifting system of thoughts set to a score inspired by J. S. Bach, marking his West Coast debut. Smuin's Stabat Mater, created in response to 9/11, is presented in honor of the 20th anniversary of Michael Smuin's passing.
