New Videos Spotlight HAIRSPRAY at Sacramento Music Circus and San Francisco Playhouse
Ginger Minj takes on Edna Turnblad while a Bay Area cast performs the show's beloved opening number.
HAIRSPRAY is having a busy summer on the West Coast, with two theatres posting new video content tied to their respective productions of the Tony Award-winning musical. San Francisco Playhouse shared a solo performance clip from its staging, while Sacramento Music Circus posted a promotional video for its own run at the UC Davis Health Pavilion. Together the two clips give audiences on either side of the state a taste of what each production is bringing to Tracy Turnblad's story.
The first video comes from San Francisco Playhouse and features Ella Ruth Francis performing "Good Morning Baltimore," the musical's opening number, as Tracy Turnblad. The performance clip arrives as the production continues its run at the Playhouse through September 12, 2026, giving those who haven't yet seen the show a direct look at Francis in the role.
The second clip, titled "Sizzle" and posted by Sacramento Music Circus, promotes that company's production of HAIRSPRAY, which performs at the UC Davis Health Pavilion only through August 30. The video touts the show's score, including "Welcome to the '60s," "Good Morning Baltimore" and "You Can't Stop the Beat," and highlights Ginger Minj, winner of "RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars" Season 10, in the role of Edna Turnblad. The promo also notes that the run is part of Broadway Sacramento's celebration of 75 years of programming.
Both productions have drawn earlier coverage as they've come together. Sacramento Music Circus previously shared a first-look video of its staging, while San Francisco Playhouse's production was the subject of a trailer released ahead of its opening.
