Bay Area Children's Theatre Sends Singing Construction Vehicles To Sunnyvale To Launch National Tour

Percussionist Ed Stephan To Join San Francisco Conservatory of Music Faculty

The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announces the appointment of Ed Stephan to its percussion faculty. Stephan-currently principal timpanist of the San Francisco Symphony-joins fellow SFCM percussion faculty members Jack Van Geem, Jacob Nissly, and James Lee Wyatt and will begin accepting students in Fall 2018.
Stray Cat Lee Rocker Hits Montalvo Stage 3/9

Montalvo Arts Center continues its acclaimed Carriage House Concert Series with a rollicking solo appearance by Lee Rocker, co-founder of the famed rockabilly band The Stray Cats. Rocker made his mark standing on, spinning, and rocking out on his giant upright bass, prompting the Orange County Weekly to declare "there has never been a rock 'n' roll bass player more fun to watch in concert." With the Grammy-nominated The Stray Cats, which has sold over 10 million albums and garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum certified records worldwide, Rocker recorded hits including "Stray Cat Strut," "(She's) Sexy +17," and "Rock This Town," listed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the songs that shaped rock 'n' roll. Rocker has also played and recorded with musical legends including Carl Perkins, Scotty Moore, Wanda Jackson, Levon Helm, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, among others. Rocker will perform 8pm, March 9 at the Montalvo Arts Center, 15400 Montalvo Rd., Saratoga. MEGABYTES! THE MUSICAL is an original musical revue written and directed by Morris Bobrow. The show takes a humorous look at how we navigate technology in our lives. It's about the frustrations, anxieties, annoyances…and occasional joys we encounter as we all struggle to cope with the quotidian challenges created by technology. The point of view of the show is that of the average person using tech devices, not that of a "techie". The comedy arises from the situations, positive and negative, the majority of us encounter in working with these so-called "user-friendly" technological tools. This revue format is a series of 20 plus observational songs and sketches, each depicting its own joy and frustration of living our lives in the modern technological age - with varying results.

Classical KDFC To Air 2014 San Francisco Opera Performance Of Giacomo Puccini's TOSCA

On Sunday, March 4 at 8 p.m., the Bay Area's Classical KDFC will broadcast a San Francisco Opera performance from November 2014 of Giacomo Puccini's Tosca starring soprano Lianna Haroutounian in the title role, tenor Brian Jagde as Cavaradossi and bass-baritone Mark Delavan as Scarpia, with maestro Riccardo Frizza leading the San Francisco Opera Orchestra. KDFC radio announcer Dianne Nicolini hosts the archival broadcast presentation, which will be available for on demand streaming at kdfc.com up to four weeks after the March 4 airing.

The 41st Annual Bay Area Playwrights Festival, the premiere festival for new works on the west coast, runs July 20th - 29th returning to the recently renovated Potrero Stage, 1695 18th St, San Francisco, CA 94107. Over 700 scripts were submitted for this year's festival. The final Six talented emerging playwrights from across the country will each have two readings of a new work presented by the Bay Area's top acting talent. Final playwrights will be announced in April and tickets for the festival will go on sale in May.

In partnership with the Tenderloin Museum, Flyaway Productions is proud to announce the world premiere of TENDER (n.): A PERSON WHO TAKES CHARGE, a site-specific aerial dance celebrating 100 years of "outcast activism" in the Tenderloin. Tender runs June 7 - 16 at the Cadillac Hotel, located at 380 Eddy Street, with performances at 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. A matinee performance at 12:30 p.m. will take place on Friday, June 8 and 15. Two additional performances at 9:30 p.m. will take place on Saturday, June 9 and 16. All performances are free, as is admission to the Museum, located on the ground floor of the Cadillac Hotel, during each performance.

In April, New Conservatory Theatre Center presents the regional premiere of a deeply insightful and very funny new play from one of the writers of HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Showtime's Masters of Sex, The Mystery of Love and Sex by Bathsheba Doran. Hailed by The New York Times as "tender, funny, packed with humanity and brimming with surprising revelations," Doran's play examines intimacy, identity and, of course, the many mysteries of love and sex. Charlotte and Jonny have been best friends since they were nine. She's Jewish, he's Christian, she's white, and he's black. They love each other, but not in that way. Or maybe that way. As they tumble into their twenties and confront the mysteries of their sexuality, they eventually find that the path forward is not always the one right in front of you.
