KPBS Previews TOMMY EMMANUEL And FRIENDS: LIVE 5/14

When guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel throws a party for his talented friends, the result is musical magic. Local music lovers delighted in the once-in-a-lifetime concert which was taped at San Diego's historic Balboa Theatre in February. TOMMY EMMANUEL AND FRIENDS: LIVE FROM THE BALBOA THEATRE features an international cast of musicians. The television special will air on PBS stations nationwide in June 2011. However, San Diegans will have the first look on May 14th as the program debuts on KPBS-TV at 11 a.m. and repeats at 9 p.m.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for The Old Globe's 2011 Shakespeare Festival, performed in repertory in the outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. Adrian Noble returns as the Artistic Director of the 2011 Festival and will direct Shakespeare's The Tempest and Peter Shaffer's Amadeus. Ron Daniels also returns and will direct Much Ado About Nothing.

Recognizing excellence in high school theater, auditions for the 2011 Globe Honors competition will take place May 7-9 at The Old Globe. Semifinalists and finalists will perform in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, on May 16 at 7:00 p.m. The evening will conclude with the announcement of the Globe Honors winners and an award ceremony.
