Rutina Wesley Leads TWELFTH NIGHT, Opening Tonight at The Old Globe

The Old Globe presents William Shakespeare's delightful and romantic Twelfth Night, directed by Rebecca Taichman, whose production of the time-traveling Time and the Conways fascinated audiences last April, as part of the 2015 Summer Shakespeare Festival. The Old Globe engagement runs through July 26, 2015, with opening night tonight, June 27 at 8:00 p.m., in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre.

San Diego REPertory Theatre (San Diego REP) presents "Violet," a modern fairy tale musical composed by 2015 Tony Award Winner Jeanine Tesori, based on "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts. The winner of the Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical, "Violet" is a production filled with show-stopping anthems of the 1960's American south. Previews begin Aug. 20, 2015. Opening night is Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015 on the Lyceum Stage.

Set in Vienna in 1938 and in London during the Blitzkrieg, 'The Pianist of Willesden Lane' tells the true story of Lisa Jura, a young Jewish musician whose dreams are interrupted by the Nazi regime.

Moonlight Stage Productions presents 'The Music Man,' a classic that is as American as apple pie. The show follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boy's band that he will lead. The catch is he doesn't know the difference between a trombone and a treble clef! Before he can skip town, the town librarian steals Hill's heart and transforms him into a respectable citizen. 'The Music Man' is family entertainment at its very best. 'The Music Man' runs July 15 through August 1, 2015 under the stars at Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista, Calif. The complete cast and creative team have been announced for the West Coast Premiere of Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, a new work by one of America's great comic playwrights, familiar to millions for Lend Me a Tenor and Crazy for You. Baskerville is directed by Josh Rhodes, who previously choreographed the Globe's productions of Bright Star and Working, as well as Broadway's It Shoulda Been You, First Date, and Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. The Old Globe engagement will begin performances on July 24, with opening night on Thursday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m., in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Although originally scheduled to run through August 23, Baskerville has been extended by popular demand through August 30, 2015!

Douglas Morrisson Theatre Receives Largest Donation Yet

The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District's Douglas Morrisson Theatre in Hayward is proud to announce it largest ever donation, a gift just under $960,000, from The Leggo Family Trust. Kathleen Leggo, who died April 2, 2002, served as the Douglas Morrisson Theatre's property master for 18 years. Her portion of the Family Trust was allocated to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District for the benefit of the Douglas Morrisson Theatre.
Cygnet Theatre to Launch 13th Season with DOGFIGHT

Cygnet Theatre will kick off its 13th season in July as director Sean Murray mounts the San Diego Premiere of Dogfight, a romantic and comic musical adaptation of the 1991 movie with River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. Winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical in 2013, Dogfight represents the new generation of voices in musical theatre creation. The production runs July 16 - August 23. Opening night for media is July 25.
