Single Tickets For PPT's ELLA Go On Sale 8/4, $15 Tickets Avaliable For Ages 26 And Younger

Single tickets for Pittsburgh Public Theater's big season-opener, Ella, go on sale Tues., Aug. 4 at 10 am. This hit bio-musical about the life and songs of Ella Fitzgerald runs Oct. 1 through Nov. 1 at the O'Reilly Theater. Directed by Rob Ruggiero, Ella will be played by Tina Fabrique. Joining her onstage are Harold Dixon as manager Norman Granz and an ensemble of actor/musicians. Single tickets are $40 to $60.

PICT artistic director Andrew S. Paul directs a cast of thirteen in the Pittsburgh professional premiere of Alan Bennett's award-winning play The History Boys. Very funny and deeply moving, the play explores the anarchy of adolescence, the nature of history, and the methods and very purpose of education today. Featured in the production are Bernard Cuffling, Linda Kimbrough, Dave Droxler and Andy Lutz.

The weekend includes a series of special events and projects to mark the Trust's work in transforming Downtown Pittsburgh from a blighted neighborhood into a nationally recognized model of urban transformation through the arts. The celebration will continue throughout the fall, culminating with The Cultural Trust's First Night Pittsburgh on December 31, 2009.

Written by The Who's Pete Towshend and Des McAnuff, Tommy first premiered on Broadway in April of 1993 and ran for 899 performances. It won 5 Tony awards including Best Original Score, and 6 Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Orchestrations.

Point Park University junior musical theatre majors Maggie Carr and Justin Fortunato, along with Duquesne University major Bob Neumeyer, recently founded Carrnivale Theatrics, a group of music and theatre majors from local schools who are pooling their talent to raise money for charity. They will stage Sweeney Todd as their premiere production at the New Hazlett Theater, July 16 - 18, 2009. Proceeds benefit the Pittsburgh affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Nederlander Alliances, LLC and Pittsburgh CLO, co-producers and founding partners of The National High School Musical Theater Awards, presented the first annual Jimmy Awards in a ceremony held last night at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York University. The Jimmy Award is named in honor of legendary Broadway theater owner and producer James M. Nederlander. The award features an illustration of James M.
