The Hale Centre Theatre in Gilbert opens its 2016-2017 season of powerhouse musicals, outrageous comedies and tastefully clean shows with the Broadway smash hit The Drowsy Chaperone. A hilarious satire on 1920s musicals, The Drowsy Chaperone encompasses classic comical elements including mistaken identities, bumbling '20s gangsters disguised as pastry chefs, a puffed-up Broadway producer, a stiff-lipped butler, a ditzy dowager and a tipsy chaperone. The fun starts Aug. 26 and runs through Oct. 8.
AZ Opera's Head of Music Appointed to Glimmerglass

The Glimmerglass Festival, one of the most prestigious opera festivals in the United States, has appointed Allen Perriello as the Director of their Young Artists Program, beginning Summer 2017. Perriello will remain as Arizona Opera's Head of Music and Director of the Marion Roose Pullin Opera Studio, a post he has held since 2012.

 The Bridge Initiative and Southwest Shakespeare Company are teaming up to present a world premiere free reading of Asterionby Liz Duffy Adams on Monday, September 5th, 2016, at 7:00 p.m., at SSC's rehearsal space, 55 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ, 85301. The play finds Asterion, the half-bull Minotaur of Greek legend, trapped in the labyrinth his sister Ariadne designed, alone except for the ghosts of the young sacrifices he has devoured. Now Ariadne and her borrowed hero, Theseus, are coming to kill him - unless he kills them instead.

Free Festival to Celebrate Mesa Arts Center's 16-17 Season

Mesa Arts Center will celebrate the start of its 2016-17 season with a free, family-friendly kickoff festival titled Between the Lines on Friday, September 9, 2016, 6-10 p.m. The event is inspired by the theme of exhibitions opening in Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum that same evening, which is contemporary art inspired by literature.
