Heart is a Wasteland is a poignant two-hander by John Harvey that explores a turbulent love affair set against the backdrop of Australia’s expansive desert highways. The story follows Raye, a country-folk singer, and Dan, a miner, as they embark on a four-day journey to Alice Springs, confronting their personal struggles and the complexities of their pasts. Co-directed and performed by Maitland Schnaars and Claire Fermo, the play integrates original music and storytelling to delve into themes of love, loss, and belonging. This production marks the WA premiere of the work and is presented by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.
