Today in 1966, Sweet Charity opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 608 performances. Featuring music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon, the musical was directed and choreographed for Broadway by Bob Fosse starring his wife and muse Gwen Verdon. It is based on Federico Fellini's screenplay for Nights of Cabiria. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1966, where it was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, and also ran in the West End as well as having revivals and international productions.

Her new show, 'The Best Of Times Is Now!' - which honors the legendary Broadway composer Jerry Herman on this 80th Birthday year - features songs from his shows including Mame, Mack and Mabel, Hello, Dolly! and Milk and Honey. Marilyn starred in Hello, Dolly! many times and recorded a CD of all the songs from the Tony Award winning score. Her recent local appearances have been received with rave reviews and full houses. The show opened November 1 and runs through Saturday, November 12 at the Loews Regency Hotel. Broadway Beat was on hand for opening night and takes you inside the showroom below!

TV: RAIN Sweeps into Broadway!

As BroadwayWorld previously announced, RAIN - A Tribute to The Beatles On Broadway will play a limited 11-week engagement this fall at the Neil Simon Theatre. Previews begin Tuesday, October 19 with the official opening scheduled for Tuesday, October 26 at 6:30 PM. The engagement will run through Sunday, January 2, 2011. BroadwayWorld recently caught up with RAIN cast members Joey Curatolo ('Paul McCartney') and Steve Landes ('John Lennon') during their whirlwind visit to New York City, and followed the pair as they stopped by their to-be home at the Neil Simon Theatre, the Ed Sullivan Theatre where the Beatles were 'born,' and - of course - a classic Times Square deli.
