BIO
Swoosie Kurtz made her television debut on The Donna Reed Show in 1962 and appeared on To Tell the Truth the same year. She became a series regular on the daytime drama As the World Turns in 1971.
Kurtz made her Broadway debut in the 1975 revival of Ah, Wilderness! She appeared in the 1977 workshop and subsequent Off-Broadway production of Uncommon Women and Others, and starred in the musical A History of the American Film in 1978. She later starred as Gwen in Fifth of July and won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for the role. In 1986, she won a second Tony Award for her performance as Bananas in the Broadway revival of The House of Blue Leaves. She starred as playwright Lillian Hellman in Imaginary Friends in 2002.
Kurtz's television credits include Mary (1978), Love, Sidney (1981–1983), Carol & Company (1990), Sisters (1991–1996), and Pushing Daisies (2007–2009). She also appeared in ER, Lost, Desperate Housewives, That's Life, Still Standing, Huff, and Nurse Jackie. In 2010, she began starring as Joyce Flynn on Mike & Molly. She later had a recurring role as Matt LeBlanc's mother on Man with a Plan and began playing Mayim Bialik's mother on Call Me Kat in 2021.
Her film credits include Caribbean Mystery (1983), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Citizen Ruth (1996), Liar Liar (1997), and Cruel Intentions (1999).
