Review: AT THE WEDDING at Studio Theatre

At the Wedding is a comedy with tragedy sprinkled in like celebratory confetti that proves difficult to clean up once dispersed. It tries to squeeze in a lot of different ideas, tones, and resonances into barely over an hour. Not all of it lands, but there are seriously funny moments mixed in with the ones that fall flat–and in a story about messy resilience, the unevenness sometimes works.

Dance Nation, Olney Theatre's 22-23 Season opener, is a 2019 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama by playwright and performer Clare Barron and directed for Olney Theatre by Jenna Place. The play follows a 'tweenage dance team from Liverpool, Ohio, more is at stake than a first-place trophy.' Its about the battle between self doubt and self belief as well as the devotion required in order to be truly great at something.

In time for the holiday season and in partnership with WAMU 88.5 FM, Washington, D.C.'s NPR news station, Ford's Theatre presents a one-hour radio play adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, featuring acclaimed Washington actor Craig Wallace as Ebenezer Scrooge. WAMU 88.5 FM will broadcast the play on December 25, 2020, at noon ET.
