La MaMa has announced programming for March 2021. March will feature special events including Pulp by Alexis Myre and James Lepkowski at La MaMa Galleria, International Woman’s Day with Marisa Buffone, SPOILED: The Film Project by The Hess Collective, Experiments: Three Ring Circus by Sean Patrick Higgins and directed by Ted Schneider, and more.

La MaMa and Talking Band have announced the world premiere of Efflorescence, a seven-episode serial songspiel. A new audio segment will be released daily from March 29 – April 4, 2021. On April 6, 2021, La MaMa and Talking Band will premiere the full piece followed by a post-show conversation with the artists.

The Obie Award-winning Target Margin Theater (Founding Artistic Director David Herskovits, Associate Artistic Director Moe Yousuf, Community Producer Victoria Linchong) returns to in-person events with Magic in Plain Sight, a series of free, socially distanced, storefront performances reflecting on loss and wonder that take place in various locations in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

La MaMa presents the world premiere of City of No Illusions, the newest work from seminal theater company Talking Band. Written and directed by four-time Obie winner Paul Zimet, City of No Illusions is a dark comedy set inside a funeral home that has become a refuge for two asylum seekers. Featuring original music by Ellen Maddow and an international cast of 12 performers, City of No Illusions is scheduled to run at La MaMa's Downstairs Theater (66 E 4th St) from February 8 through 24, with an opening night of February 13.

The New York City premiere of 'Separate and Equal,' written and directed by Seth Panitch, is now enthralling its audiences at 59E59 Theaters. The show is a stunning portrayal of race relations told through a combination of storytelling, basketball play, and contemporary dance performed to an original jazz soundtrack.

59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) presents the NYC premiere of SEPARATE AND EQUAL, written and directed by Seth Panitch. Produced by the University of Alabama in partnership with the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum and Birmingham Metro NAACP, SEPARATE AND EQUAL begins performances on Wednesday, September 5 for a limited engagement through Sunday, September 30. Press Opening is Sunday, September 9 at 2:15 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Saturday at 7:15 PM; and Sunday at 2:15 PM. Since its founding in 1974 by Paul Zimet, Ellen Maddow and Tina Shepard-former members of Joseph Chaikin's seminal Open Theater-the Talking Band has remained a cornerstone of New York City's avant-garde theater community. Ben Brantley of The New York Times recently called them 'one of the boldest and most venerable politically minded companies in New York experimental theater.' American Theater magazine has deemed them 'one of the most exceptional theater companies in the country.' The Talking Band will present in association with La MaMa the world premiere of its latest work, Burnished by Grief, a sinister, music infused romantic comedy, at La MaMa'sfirst floor theater from January 22-February 7.
