The Inaugural Gold Standard Arts Festival Announces PLAY FEST! Lineup

Gold Standard Arts Festival has announced the lineup for their PLAY FEST which consists of eleven ten-minute plays. The lineup includes works by Academy Award-winners, OBIE winners, Tony nominated writers and TV, Film and Broadway veterans. The one-of-a-kind festival celebrates film, theatre, cabaret, and comedy artists who are 50+.

BWW Interview: Playwright Lindsay Joelle Always Making Her Work TRAYF-ier

Geffen Playhouse’s next live production in their Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater, Lindsay Joelle’s TRAYF opens March 10th (with previews already in progress). Maggie Burrows directs the cast of Ilan Eskenazi, Ben Hirschhorn, Louisa Jacobson and Garrett Young. For those unfamiliar with the term “trayf,” Oxford Language dictionary defines trayf as “adjective: (of food) not satisfying the requirements of Jewish law.” I had the opportunity to throw out a few questions to Lindsay amidst her final rehearsals.

Cast Announced For APPROACHING ZANZIBAR At The Sauk

The Sauk, Hillsdale County's community theatre, will open their 2021 SaukSeconds season with Tina Howe's 'Approaching Zanzibar.' The show will feature a cast of Sauk veterans. Performances are April 15-18, 2021.

BWW Feature: Santa Fe High School Head of Theatre Reed Meschefske Gives Digital Senior Sendoff to Class of 2020

As with virtually all performing arts programs across the nation, Santa Fe High School's theatre department found its programming interrupted by COVID-19. Prior to spring break, rehearsals had just started for the 2020 senior show, a production of These Shining Lives by Melanie Marnich, featuring a cast of dedicated Santa Fe High School seniors. The production would have closed a season featuring William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Tina Howe's Museum, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, just celebrated its 2020 TCG Gala: Our Stories, last night, February 3, 2020, at The Edison Ballroom. The Gala honored North Carolina Black Repertory Company's National Black Theatre Festival, based in Winston-Salem; playwright David Henry Hwang; and TCG's arts advocacy at the federal level. The evening included performances from A Strange Loop and Soft Power, and feature Billy Bustamante, James Jackson, Jr., and Alyse Alan Louis.

Winners of Red Bull Theater's SHORT NEW PLAY FESTIVAL Will be Performed Along with Jeremy O Harris & Theresa Rebeck

Red Bull Theater (Jesse Berger, Artistic Director | Jim Bredeson, Managing Director) today announced that submissions are now open for their 10th annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes. Beginning today, six brand new plays, inspired by this year's theme: 'Private Lives,' will be selected through an open submission process to premiere alongside commissions from Jeremy O. Harris (Slave Play, Daddy) and Theresa Rebeck (Bernhardt/Hamlet, Seminar). Submissions are open through March 30th, 2020.

The Drama League presents DirectorFest,  the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. Launching the 2020 series is the musical Hello Again, with Book, Music and Lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa, Music Direction by Jesse Kissel, and Directed by 2019 Drama League Leo Shull Musical Directing Fellow Ben Randle.
