THE BEAUTIFUL LADY – a new musical work by the Tony nominated composer Elizabeth Swados (RUNAWAYS in 1978), with text translated by Paul Schmidt – will have its NYC debut at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre this spring.

La MaMa has announced the lineup for the 17th edition of the La MaMa Moves! Dance Festival. Curated by Nicky Paraiso, the three-week festival will feature new works by nine dance artists/companies with bold and diverse approaches to performance.

Mile Square Theatre, with the generous financial support of the Hoboken Business Alliance presents a weekend of dance, music, and spoken word called En Plein Air,  presented at the newly-created 7th and Jackson Plaza in Hoboken.

La MaMa E.T.C. announced today new live streaming initiatives under the umbrella of Online Happenings. While programming in the theatres is suspended during the COVID-19 crisis, La MaMa is exploring ways to respond creatively to a situation that is potentially changing how we gather as a community.

La MaMa has announced The Trojan Women as part of its 58th season celebrating the centennial of La MaMa's celebrated founder, the late Ellen Stewart. Directed by Andrei Serban and compoased by Elizabeth Swados, The Trojan Women will take place December 6, 2019 through December 15, 2019 at La MaMa ETC (66 East 4th Street).

'Only my dogs will not betray me,' confesses a world-renowned opera diva in Charles Ludlam's 1983 downtown triumph, GALAS.

Theatre at St. John's, in association with Yorick Theater Company, presents the first ever revival of Charles Ludlam's GALAS, starring and directed by Everett Quinton in celebration of Stonewall 50 and World Pride. GALAS opens on Sunday, June 16th and will play a limited engagement through June 28th at the Theatre at St. John's (81 Christopher Street), a stone's throw from Stonewall and the play's original home, Ridiculous Theatrical Company. In this grand finale of a series saluting Quinton's artistry, opera diva extraordinaire Maria Magdalena Galas (rhymes with Callas) once again storms into the West Village with style, flair, and a whole lot of high comedy. This love story is lit. The play's title, which unfortunately sounds like a cheeky riff on a similarly named sexually charged book and movie franchise, bravely attempts to quantify an impossible sexual sum. With a running time of 70 minutes, this brisk burlesque-infused play tracks the progress and problems of a male gay couple. Adriano (Bujar Ahmeti) and Merlin (Tristan Halilaj) apply for a marriage license in Tashanik, a homophobic town in the Balkans. Equal parts peep show and politics, the play burns hot (fuchsia) unapologetically. 

La MaMa is proud to present the world premiere of now my hand is ready for my heart: intimate histories, the newest work from Nicky Paraiso, an award-winning 40-year veteran of the New York City performance community. In a deep exploration of an artist's life, Paraiso investigates aging, identity, sexuality, class and race. Directed by MacArthur Fellow John Jesurun, now my hand is ready for my heart: intimate histories is also a multi-disciplinary celebration of an artistic community as it grows older and continues to make work, both individually and with each other.

La MaMa is opening its 57th season with a crowd-pleasing bang by presenting Gunnar Montana's totally rad and dizzying performance art and dance spectacle KINK HAÜS. The acclaimed puppet dance theatre company Loco7 will debut their newest work when La MaMa (66 E. 4 St.) presents the world-premiere of the family show DON QUIXOTE TAKES NEW YORK, as part of the La MaMa Kids series with performances beginning April 21, as it has been announced by Mia Yoo, La MaMa's artistic director.

La MaMa, in association with The Assembly, presents the world premiere of SEAGULLMACHINE, created by The Assembly, conceived by Nick Benacerraf, co-directed by Jess Chayes (Lucille Lortel Award winner) and Nick Benacerraf, and text by Anton Chekhov, Heiner Muller and The Assembly. SEAGULLMACHINE runs from April 14 - May 5, 2018 in a limited engagement at La MaMa's Ellen Stewart Theatre, located at 66 East 4th Street between 2nd Avenue and the Bowery in New York City. Previews begin April 14 for an April 16 opening.

Heather Henson and IBEX Puppetry are proud to present Ajijaak on Turtle Island, at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club (66 E 4th St, New York, NY 10003) from February 8-18, 2018. La MaMa (Mia Yoo, Artistic Director), the multiple Obie, Drama Desk and Bessie Award-winning Off- Broadway theater, is thrilled to announce the world premiere of The Pill, conceived by Marla Mase and written by The Family. A family memoir featuring original music by composer and producer Toma?s Doncker of True Groove, performances of The Pill will begin Thursday, January 25. This strictly limited engagement will play through Sunday, February 4.
