Cast Complete for Charles Ludlam's CONQUEST OF THE UNIVERSE OR WHEN QUEENS COLLIDE at La MaMa

CONQUEST OF THE UNIVERSE OR WHEN QUEENS COLLIDE which marked the birth of the The Ridiculous Theatrical Company, co-founded by the late groundbreaking playwright and performer Charles Ludlam in 1967 will return on the occasion of the play and the company's 50th anniversary with a production, starring and directed by Everett Quinton, a long-standing member of RTC who assumed leadership as Artistic Director when Mr. Ludlam died 30 years ago, in 1987.

Joining in the opening night festivities for The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at The Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa (66 East 4th Street): Ellen Burstyn, Co-President of the Actors Studio; Carla Hoke-Miller, Director of Theatrical Partnerships for the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment; Ruben Blades; Lee Grant; Michael Aranov (OSLO); Valda Setterfield; Patricia Bosworth; Margaret Colin; and many others. This limited Off-Broadway engagement continues through March 26th.   The Last Days of Judas Iscariot is enjoying an extended run at La Mama after being developed at the Actors Studio as part of the Theater & Social Justice program, using Actors Studio members.

La MaMa presents Magis Theatre Company's CALDERON'S TWO DREAMS a unique opportunity to see Pedro Calderon de la Barca's two versions of his classic LIFE IS A DREAM written forty-two years apart, (1635 and 1677) in one sitting. Directed by George Drance and Kelly Johnston, performances of begin February 10th at The Ellen Stewart Theatre at La MaMa with opening set for Monday, February 13.

BWW Dance Review: Ballez's SLEEPING BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at La MaMa Moves!

By my count, I've seen at least 250 productions in my lifetime, the last one in Australia. This, however, did not prepare me for Ballez's 'Sleeping Beauty & The Beast,' presented on Sunday, May 1st 2016, as part of the La Mama Moves! Festival. While this was meant to put a new spin on an old tale by gender bending mythical roles in the ballet canon, I have to admit that by the end I was neither surprised nor shocked into that feeling of astonishment when you witness something completely out of the ordinary.
