What did our critic think of JANE ANGER at Shakespeare Theatre?

On November 21st, 2022, distinguished artists from across the nation’s entertainment industry will come together at Town Hall for the 22nd annual production of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway — and the first live return of this flagship event since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

New York Stage and Film begins its summer season in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, July 9 and will run for five weeks to Sunday, August 7 for in-person programming that will support more than 35 new stories for theater, film and television. 

The Broadway Podcast Network, in association with Dorset Theatre Festival, willpresent Stage Free Audio Plays, two audio dramas created by and featuring today's most anticipated and celebrated actors, writers, and directors.

Mixing history, mystery, sword play and word play, JANE ANGER takes a jab at right-sizing Shakespeare and does so with hilarious results. Billed as a “Jacobean feminist revenge Comedy,” the one-act play written by Talene Monahon provides ample opportunity for us to hate on the egotistical bard while still swooning for the versatile actor who plays him (Michael Urie).

This week I saw productions of two decades-old musicals, each written by one of theatre's great composer/lyricists, which, in their original productions, ran a combined total of nine performances on Broadway.

New York theatre company BEDLAM is celebrating their 10th anniversary season with a bounty of new programming including a new play series, a renewed commitment to their Veteran Outreach Program, and a return to repertory theatre.

Play-PerView has announced its first LIVESTREAM in person presentation. n Monday, October 18, Play-PerView will present a LIVE reading of “Jane Anger or The Lamentable Comedie of JANE ANGER, that Cunning Woman, and also of Willy Shakefpeare and his Peasant Companion, Francis, Yes and Also of Anne Hathaway (also a Woman) Who Tried Very Hard,”.

The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues will return on Tuesday, September 14th, with an all new series of unforgettable performances. Sixteen actors have been paired with writers who have crafted unique pieces especially for them. From 6 PM until 10 PM, new monologues will be published every 15 minutes.

Immersive Van Gogh, the original experiential celebration of the work of beloved post-Impressionist Vincent van Gogh, is now open at Pier 36 (299 South St.) a 70,000-square-foot facility located on Manhattan’s Lower East Side with views of the East River, the Brooklyn skyline and the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges. 

The 24 Hour Plays has announced a special Cincinnati edition round of The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues, which they will host in partnership with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, and featuring brand-new monologues written, rehearsed and recorded in 24 hours by 12 actors and playwrights.
