Spring is here, vaccines are rolling out, and New York City, slowly but surely, is getting ready for the renaissance of 2021. The lights of Broadway are still dim for now, but we are stepping out of the dark ages nonetheless. Since New York Governor Andrew Cuomo began expanding arts re-openings earlier this month, several off-Broadway shows and NYC venues have announced plans to return.

Hope is on the horizon in the New York theatre, as the Public Theater has just announced that Shakespeare in the Park, which plays outdoors at Central Park's Delacorte Theatre will return this summer.

Walk has wanted to cover Prince for some time, in part due to them both hailing from Minneapolis, but also because collaborators Abe Rounds and Meshell Ndegeocello played the pop legends personal studio Paisley Park in the past.

Magic Goes Wrong, the box office hit created by Mischief Theatre with Las Vegas legends Penn & Teller, will return for a magical eight week run at the Vaudeville Theatre, from 10 December 2020 through to 31 January 2021.

BBC AMERICA will air the US premiere of Baby Chimp Rescue, Saturdays starting December 5th at 8/7c as part of Wonderstruck. The three-part series narrated by Gillian Burke (Blue Planet UK) and from executive producer Jo Shinner (Planet Earth: A Celebration) follows an American couple, Jenny and Jim Desmond, as they teach their 21 rescued baby chimps how to survive on their own.

Steve Buscemi announces today's AFI Movie Club selection: JACKIE BROWN. The film is directed by AFI Honorary Degree recipient Quentin Tarantino, and the star-studded cast includes AFI Life Achievement Award recipient Robert De Niro.

The Public Theater has just announced that the 2020 summer season of Shakespeare in the Park, a 58-year tradition of free theater in Central Park, has been canceled. A Statement from the theater reads: 'While our stages will remain dark, our commitment to our mission will burn brighter than ever. Our promise to you is that we will keep working tirelessly to bring you glorious work by our incredible artists. Thank you for continuing to stand with us.' 

Magic Goes Wrong, the box office hit created by Mischief Theatre with magic legends Penn & Teller, today announces a magical cast transformation at the Vaudeville Theatre, from March 2020.

Mischief Theatre, the Olivier award-winning company behind The Play That Goes Wrong, has announced a new booking period for Magic Goes Wrong, with tickets now on sale until 30th August 2020. Created with magic legends Penn & Teller, this is the second production as part of Mischief Theatre's residency at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Just in time for the holidays The Wizards of Winter appear at Spencer Theater Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m., inspiring patrons to journey into the magic of the season.

Cortland Repertory Theatre Downtown at 24 Port Watson Street in Cortland is proud to present The Jazz Ensembles from Cornell University with a unique and exciting concert on Friday October 25 at 7:30 PM. Directed by Paul Merrill, the talented student musicians will present a concert entitled 'Mythology, Folklore, and Freedom: Train Imagery in Early Blues, Folk, Jazz and Pop.' With a central theme of songs about trains and a?oeriding the railsa??, the concert features music by Johnny Cash, Duke Ellington, Bob Marley, Arlo Guthrie, Thelonious Monk, Lead Belly, Elizabeth Cotton, Henry Thomas, Mary Lou Williams, and The O'Jays.  Special guest musician/singer Miché Fambro will also join the group, bringing his own unique sound to the concert.  Tickets for $10.00 for adults and seniors, and $8.00 for youth under 22.

Community theater folks and their fans are in for a treat as Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) Kelsey Theatre presents an evening of entertainment and awards on Saturday, Aug. 17, starting at 7 p.m. The a?oe2019 Kelsey Awardsa?? will celebrate and recognize the best theatrical productions and performers from Kelsey Theatre's 2018-19 season. The theater is located on MCCC's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) announced the line-up today for the 2019 Free Shakespeare in the Park season, continuing a 57-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. Since 1962, over five million people have enjoyed more than 150 free productions of Shakespeare and other classical works and musicals at the Delacorte Theater. Conceived by founder Joseph Papp as a way to make great theater accessible to all, The Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park continues to be the bedrock of the Company's mission to increase access and engage the community.

Today, Sarah Walk releases her newest single and music video “CTRL” (One Little Indian Records). “I wrote this song about fighting against those who bind you”, explains Walk. “I feel like it takes twice as much effort for my voice to be heard as a woman and even then it's often times not taken seriously. We need to be valuing women's voices and perspectives and listening more. It all starts with listening.”

One of the fist modern instances of 'breaking the fourth wall,' Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN is a story addressed directly to an audience - by the production's Stage Manager, the narrator and an occasional player in the story. It's a tale of the life of the fictional Grover's Corners, New Hampshire from 1901 through 1913, seen through the eyes of two neighboring families and the Stage Manager's decription of the locale.
