Moonlight Stage Productions’ “Anastasia” offers a glittery train ride through royal rumors, sweeping ballads, and animated-movie nostalgia, with just a few detours into brooding Soviet angst.

Moonlight Stage Productions’ 44th season will continue with Anastasia, the second of three regional premieres. Based on the 20th Century Fox Animation 1997 film of the same name.

Stephen Sondheim’s Pacific Overtures has just opened at the East West Players. Former EWP Artistic director Tim Dang returns to direct the cast led by Jon Jon Briones and Gedde Watanabe with Scott Keiji Takeda, Brian Kim McCormick, Adam Kaokept, Kerry K. Carnahan, Ashley En-Fu Matthews, Kavin Panmeechao, Kurt Kanazawa, Sittichai Chaiyahat, Nina Kasuya, Aric Martin, Gemma, Kit Dezolt and Norge Yi. Gedde found time after the opening to answer a few of my queries.

Scifi, B movie monsters, comic book colors, and the imminent threat to humanity via your local florist have never looked as good as it does in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS at New Village Arts, playing through August 4th.  Honestly, this production and talented cast so perfectly defines campy, musical fun it's a shame it couldn't go to The Met Gala this year.

New Village Arts is excited to announce the final production of its eighteenth season: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. NVA's Director of Connectivity and Artistic Associate AJ Knox will direct, with music direction by Benjamin Goniea, and choreography by Kevin "Blax" Burroughs.

New Village Arts announces a change in programming for its eighteenth season. NVA had previously announced a summer production of the West Coast premiere of BELLA: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE, but due to staffing changes and material challenges, NVA has made the difficult decision to cancel the production. NVA's Executive Artistic Director, Kristianne Kurner, says, "All of us love BELLA, but we want to be sure we produce it when we are confident that we can put our best minds together with enough time for rehearsal to be successful."

New Village Arts has announced the San Diego premiere of MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLEY for the holidays. MISS BENNET is written by Lauren Gunderson (the most-produced playwright in America in 2017) and Margot Melcon, and will be directed by NVA's Executive Artistic Director, Kristianne Kurner.

LEGALLY BLONDE, now playing at the New Village Arts, is the theatre version of a perfect summer cocktail.  It is effervescent, fun, has a distinctive color (pink, naturally), and is a refreshing respite from the world (and heat) outside

New Village Arts Theatre is excited to announce its upcoming production of LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL, with book by Heather Hatch, music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, directed by NVA's Executive Artistic Director Kristianne Kurner, with music direction by Tony Houck and choreography by Kyle Hawk.

A LITTLE NEW MUSIC returned to the historic Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood on Monday, August 21st with its fifteenth concert featuring emerging musical theatre artists. Co-hosts, Tony Award winner Marisa Jaret Winokur (HAIRSPRAY) and Ryan O'Connor ('BIG LITTLE LIES,' 'LADYWATCH' podcast), delighted the audience with context and humor between numbers. Gregory Nabours and the dynamic ALNM band (Eric McCann, Emily Rosenfield, and Greg Sadler) provided excellent backup to the singers performing the next generation of musical theatre songs. 

On Monday, August 21 at 8:30pm, A Little New Music will present its 15th concert collaboration with an eclectic array of artists performing original musical theatre songs at the historic Catalina Jazz Club. Those who attend A Little New Music will be some of the first to discover new pieces of musical theatre that could potentially become Broadway hits.
