BWW Review: TEENAGE DICK, Donmar Warehouse
by Anthony Walker-Cook
- Dec 13, 2019
It's a case of rather ironic programming that the press night for Mike Lew's Teenage Dick at the Donmar Warehouse was on the 12 December, the day of the General Election in the UK. An adaptation of Shakespeare's Richard III, Lew's new play is a meditation on the nature of power transposed to an American high school. Commissioned by The Apothetae, a theatre company dedicated to plays that discuss disability, and with direction by Michael Longhurst, Lew retells Shakespeare with a needed urgency, providing an arch reminder that the voices of the disabled have often been ignored, terrorised or shouted down from the earliest possibility.

BWW Review: DESCRIBE THE NIGHT, Hampstead Theatre
by Marianka Swain
- May 10, 2018
American playwright Rajiv Joseph's latest certainly doesn't lack for ambition, spanning 90 years, three countries, and mixing history and fiction in its form to make a point about, well, mixing history and fiction. Storytelling through to the pertinent “fake news” abounds, but this near-three-hour show is ultimately more compelling in its ideas than in its drama.
Fresh Faces And Inspiring Words At The Stage Debut Awards
by Cindy Marcolina
- Sep 18, 2017
On Sunday, 17th September, 8 Northumberland Avenue saw theatre veterans and newcomers gathering together to celebrate the latter's accomplishments. The first edition of The Stage Debut Awards was a success, and the red carpet turn-up was a grand and sparkling line of stars and stars-in-the-making. Dressed to the nines in suits, gowns, and make-up worthy of Hollywood's glitziest of nights and shrouded in the humbleness and grace that only belong to the theatre folk (well, most of them, anyway), actors, writers, composers, and directors walked with full hearts and starry eyes.
