Comedy Central announced today a collaboration with All Things Comedy to produce a documentary about Patrice O'Neal. Set to begin filming this fall, the untitled documentary is a deep-dive portrait of O'Neal who passed away at 41 in 2011. The film, directed by Bonfiglio (Gary Gulman: The Great Depresh) will recount O'Neal's life story and explore the hilarious and controversial material he left behind. Utilizing a vast archive including never-before-seen personal materials and featuring O'Neal's family and friends, the film will include a who's who of comedy — the comics who knew, were influenced and were affected by O'Neal — placing his work into the context of the time as well as today.
Night Raiders, an Indigenous sci-fi feature from award-winning Saskatchewan-born Cree/Métis writer/director, Danis Goulet (Wakening, Barefoot), began principal photography on October 7, 2019. The film, which marks Goulet's feature film directorial debut, stars Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, Blood Quantum), Brooklyn Letexier-Hart (Burden of Truth), New Zealand's Alex Tarrant (Seachange, When We Go to War), Shaun Sipos (Krypton, Dark Matter) and Emmy and Tony Award-winning Amanda Plummer (Hunger Games, Pulp Fiction). Filming will continue until November 11, 2019 in Toronto and surrounding area.

SHOWTIME Documentary Films has announced that the acclaimed documentary feature READY FOR WAR, which explores the phenomenon of deported United States military veterans, will premiere on the network on Sunday, November 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary follows three green card holding soldiers at various stages in this process: one in Tijuana fighting to come home to American soil and reunite with his family; another in ICE detention in the U.S. fighting deportation; and a third, lost in the clutches of a drug cartel in Ciudad Juarez, waging a war that was never meant to be his own. Andrew Renzi (Fishtail, They Fight) directs the film, with multi-platinum selling artist Drake (Euphoria, Top Boy) and David Ayer (Fury, End Of Watch) serving as executive producers. Embedding with the dangerous cartels for two years, Renzi and producer Nick Boak envelop viewers in a world of life-or-death stakes from beginning to end. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will have its U.S. premiere at AFI Fest in Los Angeles on Tuesday, November 19.

CBS announced today that the Network has reached a new contract extension with Stephen Colbert to continue as host of the top-rated THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT through August 2023. Colbert, who took over as host of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015, was originally signed through August 2020.

SHOWTIME Documentary Films today announced a new limited docu-series profiling notorious hip-hop artist Tekashi 6ix9ine, called SuperVillain. Inspired by the Rolling Stone feature “Tekashi 6ix9ine: The Rise and Fall of a Hip Hop Supervillain” by investigative journalist Stephen Witt, the three-part series will trace how a New York City deli clerk named Daniel Hernandez exploded into Tekashi 6ix9ine, the tattooed face of Gen Z and hip hop's prince of trolls, boasting 2.6 billion streams and 15 hits on the Billboard charts. Tekashi is currently in prison on federal racketeering and weapons charges and is awaiting release as early as the end of this year. Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment will executive produce. The series will be produced by Imagine Documentaries, Rolling Stone and Lightbox. SHOWTIME has announced the development of a new untitled limited series based on the bestselling book Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber, written by Mike Isaac. Brian Koppelman and David Levien (BILLIONS) will executive produce and write the series, as part of their overall deal with SHOWTIME. Isaac will co-executive produce the project. The limited series will be produced by SHOWTIME. The announcement was made today by Gary Levine and Jana Winograde, Presidents of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc.
