NBC Announces 2019-20 Classes of Female Forward, Emerging Director Program

NBC has ushered in the 2019-20 classes of its groundbreaking scripted directing initiatives, Female Forward and theEmerging Director Program. The initiatives aim to increase representation of female and ethnically diverse directors, respectively, by creating a pipeline into scripted television. They are the only programs in the industry that give participating directors an in-season guarantee to direct at least one episode.

BEYOND THE LIGHT Comes To Philadelphia Fringe September 18-22

Leila Ghaznavi and Pantea Productions are proud to present Beyond the Light at the 2019 Philadelphia Fringe Festival This theatrical exploration of dance, light effects, and puppetry, was conceived by Leila Ghaznavi, a 2012 recipient of the Leeway Foundation Art and Change Grant and the 2012 Puffin Grant. The piece runs at the Theatre Exile, 1340 South 13th Street., from September 18-22. Tickets cost $10-$12. Tickets are available online at www.fringearts.com   or at the Philly Fringe box office.

From Trick of the Light Theatre (The Bookbinder, The Road That Wasn't There) comes a lo-fi wi-fi fable in the vein of Stranger Things, combining storytelling, projection, and puppetry.

GET Opens Season 27 With Southern Classic CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET), the professional North Fulton theatre company, will open its 27th season this September with a southern classic from Tennessee Williams: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The production will be directed by GET Associate Artistic Director James Donadio and run September 12th through 28th, 2019, at the company's home in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. The Robert W. Hagan Family Foundation is graciously sponsoring this show.

Up on the Marquee: SLAVE PLAY Arrives on Broadway

Producers Greg Nobile and Jana Shea of Seaview Productions, Troy Carter, Level Forward, and Nine Stories, founded by Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, have now officially announced that Slave Play, by Jeremy O. Harris, directed by Robert O'Hara, will be coming to Broadway's Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) this fall. The strictly limited 17-week engagement will begin preview performances Tuesday, September 10, ahead of an official opening night of Sunday, October 6.
