Douglas Lyons, who wrote the 2021 Broadway play Chicken and Biscuits, is adapting Big River into a movie musical. Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn first opened on Broadway in 1985, winning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. A revival opened in 2003 with a special ASL production.

The Thornton Wilder Society will present its annual THORNTON WILDER PRIZE to Michel Hausmann and the company he co-founded Miami New Drama  at a ceremony in NYC on Monday, November 14.

After 34 years serving as the Creative Director and then Senior Vice President of Jujamcyn Theaters, Jack Viertel has announced his retirement as of the end of 2021. Mr. Viertel came to the company in 1987 and was involved in the production of many award-winning plays and musicals, including six of August Wilson’s legendary ten–play Century Cycle.

Singular Sensation by Michael Riedel picks up where Razzle Dazzle, his bestselling account of the battle for Broadway, drops off: when audiences craved more than the British mega-productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the famed theater strip reached new heights with the productions of Rent, Angels in America, Chicago, The Lion King, and The Producers.

3-D Theatricals continues its 2019-2020 season with Kinky Boots, winner of six 2013 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The production, which will be directed by Tony Award nominee John Tartaglia (Broadway's Avenue Q and Shrek The Musical) and choreographed by Linda Love Simmons (3-D Theatricals' Once The Musical) with musical direction and conducting by Benet Braun (La Mirada Theatre's Grumpy Old Men: The Musical). Kinky Boots will play February 14-March 1 at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (18000 Park Plaza Drive, Cerritos, CA). Opening night is Saturday, February 15. 

Fractured fairytales hit the stage with an epic story about wishes, family and the choices we make. 'Be careful what you wish for' is the ongoing theme in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods. The story follows The Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to go the King's Festival, Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk, and a familiar cast of many others! What begins a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.
