Met Opera To Launch Free Nightly Streams During Coronavirus Closure

A day after canceling upcoming performances due to concerns around the coronavirus, the Metropolitan Opera announced that it would stream encore presentations from the award-winning Live in HD series of cinema transmissions on the company website for the duration of the closure.

In this album, his third on naïve, Julien Martineau once again spotlights the mandolin's remarkable repertoire, nobility of character, and natural ability as a partner. Together with pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell, he has devised a program truly Beethovenian in its inventiveness, influences and associations.

Internationally acclaimed French-Sicilian tenor Roberto Alagna appears at the Royal Opera House alongside his wife, Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak, as the husband-and-wife actors Canio and Nedda in Pagliacci. Ruggero Leoncavallo's gripping and tragic opera tells the story of what happens when Nedda, weary of her husband Canio's jealousy, begins a love affair. When Canio discovers her betrayal and has to go on stage the same evening to act the part of a cuckolded husband, reality and theatre blur in a frightening way. Pagliacci contains some of Leoncavallo's greatest music, including Nedda's dreamy aria 'Stridono lassù' and Canio's anguished soliloquy 'Vesti la giubba'.

The Metropolitan Opera presents Puccini's La Bohème, conducted by Marco Armiliato, with eight initial performances beginning October 25, 2019. Ailyn Pérez returns to the role of the seamstress Mimì; her lover, the poet Rodolfo, is portrayed by Matthew Polenzani in his Met role debut. Olga Kulchynska makes her Met debut as the singer Musetta, while David Bizic sings the role of the painter Marcello.

The Metropolitan Opera's annual Summer HD Festival, presenting free outdoor screenings of operas in Lincoln Center Plaza, returns for the 11th time this summer, with one screening each night now through Monday, September 2, 2019 (Labor Day). The series features ten performances from the company's acclaimed Live in HD series of movie theater transmissions, including performances from the 2018 19 season as well as some of the most popular transmissions from past years. Preceding the festival, on Friday, August 23, the classic movie musical Funny Face will be screened in the plaza, in association with Film at Lincoln Center. Funny Face features songs by George and Ira Gershwin, whose opera, Porgy and Bess, will be presented in a new production to open the Met's forthcoming 2019 20 season in September.

Über 10.000 begeisterte Besucherinnen und Besucher feierten am gestrigen Sonntag, 26. Mai 2019 den 150. Geburtstag des Hauses am Ring beim „Jubilaumskonzert vor der Oper". Gemeinsam mit Ensemblesangerinnen und -sangern, internationalen Gastsolistinnen und -solisten, dem Orchester und dem Chor der Wiener Staatsoper unter der musikalischen Leitung von Marco Armiliato wurde der Herbert von Karajan-Platz/Opernring bei freiem Zugang bespielt - als Überraschung fur das Publikum wurden einige Programmpunkte von der Terrasse der Wiener Staatsoper und von Balkonen des Hotel Bristol gegeben.
