BWW Review: I Believe! THE BOOK OF MORMON at the Paramount Still Shines
by Jay Irwin
- Jan 4, 2018
God's favorite musical is back! This is, I believe, the fourth time the tour of The Book of Mormon , that juggernaut musical from 2011 (the Hamilton of its day) from the warped minds of Trey Parker and Matt Stone of South Park fame and Robert Lopez who co-wrote Avenue Q (as well as that little animated film Frozen ), has come through town. And the appeal of its crass humor, repeated gay jokes, and borderline sacrilege shows no signs of waning. I know I left the theater smiling and laughing and still humming the songs all the way home because underneath it all, it's still just a damn good musical.

BWW Album Review: COCO Embraces the Power of Music and Tradition
by Amanda Prahl
- Dec 13, 2017
Never underestimate the power of music, sings Ernesto de la Cruz on the soundtrack to the new Disney/Pixar film Coco. And that, at its heart, is the overarching theme of this thoroughly delightful, sometimes surprising story and its accompanying soundtrack. Music here isn't just an accent to the story it is the story. It's a classic Disney coming-of-age musical tale, but with one crucial difference: instead of the usual Broadway-pop score, it features specifically Mexican music, with songs by Robert Lopez & Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Germaine Franco & Adrian Molina, to tell a story that is both culturally specific and universally human.

BWW Review: Swedish Production of THE BOOK OF MORMON at Chinateatern, Stockholm.
by Isa Ponturo
- Nov 26, 2017
Author: Isa Ponturo. Trey Parker and Matt Stone's critically-acclaimed and smash hit satire of Mormon missionaries was one of the biggest hypes of 2011. It is one of those mainstream shows that' breaks the fourth wall' with non-thespians (Think Hamilton) and still is still one of the most popular shows in the theatre community. Sweden was the first non english speaking country to make a production of this show and it opened to raving reviews earlier this year.
BWW Review: THE BOOK OF MORMON at Kravis Center For The Performing Arts
by John Lariviere
- Nov 26, 2017
The musical, The Book of Mormon, which lampoons both organized religion and traditional musical theatre, was conceived by Trey Parker, Matt Stone (creators of South Park), and Robert Lopez. This hysterically funny show is not for the faint of heart. While it comes with a parental advisory for explicit language, it should also come with a general caution to all for its possibly offensive representation of organized religion. However, as ridiculous and potentially offensive as some of this show may be, The Book of Mormon is a delectable guilty pleasure!
