Lillias White Returns To The Green Room 42 For The Club's Second Birthday

THE GREEN ROOM 42 Broadway's newest intimate concert venue will celebrate its second birthday with the return of Tony Award winner Lillias White with a Valentine's Day show on Thursday, February 14 at 7:00 PM. White opened the room on Valentine's Day in 2017 and returned last year for the club's special first anniversary. With music direction by Alvin Hough, Jr. (The Color Purple and Once On This Island) and direction by Will Nunziata (Our Guy, Cy and Kander & Ebb's The Act), the evening will explore the power of self-love through soul, sass, and song. Tunes include those written by Smokey Robinson, Cy Coleman, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, William Finn, Hoagy Carmichael, Betty Comden & Adolph Green, Stephen Flaherty & Lynn Ahrens, and more.

The Canterbury Company Of Resident Artists Announced

Joey Folsom, Artistic Director of The Classics Theatre Project, today announced the formation of a permanent Resident Artists Company for the theatre to be underwritten by Liese and Mike Canterbury. The company members will be, in addition to Mr. Folsom, R. Andrew Aguilar, Sasha Maya Ada, Chad Cline, Stan Graner, Gretchen Hahn, N. Ryan McBride, Leslie Patrick, Van Quattro, Rachel Reininger and Dean Wray. The Resident Artists will fill many of the roles in the TCTP 3-play 2019 season: "Fool for Love," Summer and Smoke," and "The Crucible." In addition, the RAC members will work as members of the TCPT team in other areas of production, marketing, and development. The Company will be called the Canterbury Company of Resident Artists.

Broadway Veteran Stephanie Pope Returns To Teach Fosse Master Class at Playhouse on Park

Playhouse on Park's education department, Playhouse Theatre Academy, is thrilled to welcome back Stephanie Pope for another Fosse Adult Master Class on Monday, January 21 from 6-8pm at The 224 Ecospace! All performers (ages 16 and up!) who have a vested interest in the performing arts are encouraged to attend this amazing class.

Red Bull Theater Opens Submissions for Ninth Annual Short New Play Festival

Red Bull Theater today announced that their ninth annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes will feature two brand new commissions from Kia Corthron and Will Power, alongside six brand new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country. Submissions are now open through March 18, 2019.

The Classics Theatre Project Announces 2019 Season

The Classics Theatre Project's Artistic Director Joey Folsom today announced the Company's 2019 3-play season of all-American classics. The season starts with Neil Simon's comedy "Rumors" (March 7 - 31, 2019), followed by Tennessee Williams's "Summer and Smoke" (May 29-June 23, 2019), and concluding with Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" (dates TBA).

Broadway/cabaret Star Avery Sommers Joins Board For Society For Preservation Of The Great American Songbook

Broadway and cabaret star Avery Sommers has joined the Honorary Board of Advisors for The Society for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook, a non-profit founded by broadcasting legend Dick Robinson to keep this great music playing through its Young Artist Mentorship Program and radio and television shows that provide songbook lovers around the world with free, unfettered access to the music they cherish.

Goodman Theatre Hosts Costume Sale On Today

For the first time in six years, Goodman Theatre's Costume Shop hosts a costume sale today, October 20 from 9am - 2pm. More than 100 handmade items by the Goodman's costume shop artisans will be available for sale, priced starting at just $1. From couture gowns to fashionable headwear, attendees can pick selections from acclaimed Goodman productions including-hats and headwear from Artistic Associate Regina Taylor's gospel musical sensation Crowns (2004, 2012); uniforms from Artistic Director Robert Falls' celebrated production of King Lear (2006); the majorette costume from Sweet Bird of Youth (2012) with Academy Award-winning actress Diane Lane and Finn Wittrock; and more. The costume sale takes place today, October 20 from 9am - 2pm at Goodman Theatre (170 N. Dearborn). Admission is free and costume pieces range from $1 - $300+; both cash and credit is accepted. All sales are final and proceeds support the Goodman. Costume previews will not be available prior to the sale. 

Brendan Coyle To Star In A Revival Of Conor McPherson's ST. NICHOLAS At Goodman Theatre

Goodman Theatre adds to its 2018/2019 Season a limited engagement of St. Nicholas-an internationally-acclaimed major revival by London's Donmar Warehouse of Conor McPherson's 1997 intimate thriller, directed by Simon Evans. The monologue play stars Olivier Award-winning actor Brendan Coyle ("Mr. Bates" of the smash sensation Downton Abbey, for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination) in "a superlative, mesmerizing performance that's simply not to be missed" (The Arts Review). The U.S. premiere, which appears in the Goodman's 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre, follows two acclaimed recent appearances at the Donmar Warehouse and the Dublin Theatre Festival. The creative team includes Peter McKintosh (Set), Matt Daw (Lighting) and Christopher Shutt (Sound). Pulitzer Prize Finalist Dael Orlandersmith highlights the universal languages of love and music in Lady in Denmark, kicks off the 2018/2019 season in the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre. Chay Yew, who also helmed the play's 2016 New Stages Festival staged reading, directs Linda Gehringer as Helene-a Danish American woman coping with the death of her husband who finds solace in the hauntingly beautiful music of their favorite singer, Billie Holiday. Orlandersmith's newest play is Helene's journey through the couple's time together-from the smoky jazz clubs of post-war Copenhagen to the home they shared in present-day Andersonville, Chicago. The creative team includes Andrew Boyce (set), Christine Pascual (costumes), Lee Fiskness (lighting) and Mikhail Fiksel (original music and sound). Donald E. Claxon is the production stage manager. Goodman Theatre Now Accepting Applications For Two Education And Engagement Programs

Applications are now available for two Goodman Theatre Education and Engagement programs-Disney Musicals in Schools and Cindy Bandle Young Critics-offered at no cost to Chicagoland youth. Goodman Theatre And The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) Co-Present MENDOZA

In a unique addition to its upcoming 2018/2019 Season, Goodman Theatre and the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA) will present the U.S. premiere of Mendoza by Los Colochos of Mexico City-the latest in a 30-year history of premiering works by prominent local, national and international Latino playwrights and theater companies. Mendoza is presented as part of Destinos-the 2nd Chicago International Latino Theater Festival, a seven-week festival of Latino theater artists and companies from Chicago, the U.S. and Latin America in shows, panels and student performances at venues citywide. A radically reimagined adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Mendoza is a tale of ambition, blood and power by Antonio Zuñiga and Juan Carrillo, directed by Carrillo and presented in Spanish with English supertitles.
