City Theater's fourth show of the season is the riotous comedy Exit Laughing by Paul Elliot. Exit Laughing opens May 12 and runs through the 28th. This is a joyous comedy about starting a fresh and living life to the fullest. Set in the present-day, Exit Laughing centers on the 30-year friendship of four ladies, one of whom has recently and unexpectedly passed away.

Shattered Globe Theatre is concluding its 2022-23 season with the U.S. premiere of London Road, an experimental and innovative new musical featuring book and lyrics by Alecky Blythe, music and lyrics by Adam Cork, direction and movement by Elizabeth Margolius and music direction by Andra Velis Simon. I interviewed Tony Award winner Gavin Creel about his experience as The Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince in the national tour of Stephen Sondheim’s INTO THE WOODS. The production started as a City Center Encores staging and later transferred to Broadway. Now, Chicago audiences can see the tour — with some of the original Broadway company, including Gavin himself— through May 7.

HartBeat Ensemble presents Congolese Playwright and Actor Toto Kisaku in his original one-person drama Requiem for an Electric Chair on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30pm. Based on Kisaku's harrowing personal experience in jail in his home country, the play will be performed at the Carriage House Theatre located at 360 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, CT.
