The Barrow Group Theatre Company, recipient of the Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards, has announced its lineup for the 2017-2018 season with the New York premiere of Muswell Hill, a play by Torben Betts, followed by the world premiere of The Thing With Feathers, a new play by Scott Organ, the revival of A Walk in the Woods by Lee Blessing, and a special benefit performance of the award-winning solo play The Tricky Part by Martin Moran at The Barrow Group Mainstage Theatre (312 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor). Botanicum Seedlings, the development series for playwrights at Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum, has announced the recipient of the 7th annual "Izzy" Award for new plays. The winning play, Still Life by Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich, was presented during last year's Summer Playreadings. The Izzy is named for Theatricum's first dramaturg, Israel Baran, who passed away in 2007. To honor Israel's keen mind, sharp tongue, and ear for language (despite the fact that he was frustratingly deaf), the Izzy was established to recognize the Seedlings play that "speaks to us the loudest." Capital Stage will launch its 2017-18 Season: Future Tense with the Obie Award Winner and Sacramento Premiere of An Octoroon by Branden Jacob-Jenkins. This poignant adaptation of a 19th century anti-slavery melodrama will be directed by star of stage and screen, and UCLA's professor of Theatre, Film and Television, Judith Moreland. An Octoroon will be the first production of Capital Stage's 13th Season, and will run from August 30 - October 1, 2017 with a Press Opening on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 8pm.
