Ford’s Theatre Society announced that audiences and the company of A Christmas Carol raised $22,109.83 for Theatre Washington’s Taking Care Fund during performances of this season’s A Christmas Carol.

A one-night concert version of the Tony-nominated musical Come From Away was performed last Friday on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, September 10, 2021. This free, 100-minute concert was held in honor of the 20th anniversary of 9/11. 

Directed by Ford’s Theatre Senior Artistic Advisor Sheldon Epps, the remarkable new drama is based on true events and the friendship between contralto Marian Anderson and physicist Albert Einstein.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Ford’s Theatre will be joining performing arts venues in the Washington, D.C. region and around the country, to provide a safer return to full-capacity, indoor performances this fall by requiring that all audience members be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

There will be no tickets required. The public is invited to come as they please, and bring their own blankets and picnics. Tetreault also plans to invite members of the Biden administration and other prominent figures to the performance.

Due to rising regional and national cases related to the coronavirus pandemic, Ford's Theatre National Historic Site will temporarily close to the public starting Monday, Nov. 23. In time for the holiday season and in partnership with WAMU 88.5 FM, Washington, D.C.'s NPR news station, Ford's Theatre presents a one-hour radio play adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, featuring acclaimed Washington actor Craig Wallace as Ebenezer Scrooge. WAMU 88.5 FM will broadcast the play on December 25, 2020, at noon ET.
