SHE MAKES ME LAUGH Comedy Festival Returns To NYC

She Makes Me Laugh Comedy Festival returns to The Peoples Improv Theater (The PIT) October 4th through the 6th. Produced by the women of She Makes Me Laugh, the monthly comedy showcase, She Makes Me Laugh Festival highlights women and non-binary identifying performers in comedy across stand-up, improv, sketch, storytelling, characters, and podcasting, empowering performers in the New York Comedy scene and beyond. Headlining comedians include Ana Fabrega, Karen Chee, Ophira Eisenberg, Gina Brillon, Kerry Coddett, Jo Firestone, and Molly Austin. The event will also feature live podcast tapings for Bad Romance & Awkward Sex and the City.

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Joe's Pub, a program of The Public Theater, is thrilled to present Adrienne Truscott's (Still) Asking For It (A Stand-Up Rape About Comedy Starring Her P***y and Little Else), directed and developed by Ellie Heyman, from September 20 a?" October 13. The a?oebrilliantly bolda?? (The Times UK) Truscott returns to Joe's Pub with a new iteration of her provocative and painfully relevant show, which had its U.S. debut there in 2013. Dressed only from the waist up and the ankles down, Truscott (still) stars in this sex-positive, seriously funny, unflinching, and nuanced show about rape culture, but will now be joined by cast members Jenn Kidwell (Underground Railroad Game) and Mari Moriarty (Jet of Blood). 51Fest, a partnership between Women in the World and IFC Center, continued its inaugural festival last night with screenings and discussions about women's stories. Saturday got to a rowdy start with the exciting documentary Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins, where director Janice Engel led the crowd in a rousing chant to get them into the Ivins' spirit. The film, which tells the incredible life of powerhouse Texas journalist Molly Ivins, who famously told the stories plaguing America with humor, passion, and grit, was followed by a conversation with director Janice Engel and actor Kathleen Turner, moderated by New York Times reporter Rachel Dry.

Awarded biennially, the Collaboration Awards encourage professional women in the arts and media from different disciplines to work collaboratively on the creation of new work.
