The Flea Hosts the World Premiere of THE INVENTION OF TRAGEDY

The Flea Theater presents the World Premiere of THE INVENTION OF TRAGEDY,the centerpiece of MAC WELLMAN: PERFECT CATASTROPHES, a festival of plays by the influential vanguard playwright. Now in previews, performances run through October 14 at The Flea (20 Thomas Street in Tribeca, between Church and Broadway, three blocks north of Chambers) with opening set for September 21.

The Flea Announces 2019/20 Season with Mac Wellman and Taylor Mac

The Kennedy Center Announces 50th KCACTF National Festival

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts hosts more than 120 outstanding theater students from colleges and universities across the nation as part of the 50th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), which runs April 16-20, 2019 in multiple locations throughout the Center. The Center also announced the national awardees for the KCACTF. Selected awardees and representatives will be brought to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in the National Festival. These student artists from across the United States have been recognized for their outstanding work from the eight regional festivals that were held January 8 through February 28, 2019.

Based on true events, SYNCING INK is directed by Jeffrey Page, the critically acclaimed choreographer behind Beyonce's 'Run the World (Girls)' and Roundabout Theatre Company's VIOLET, and produced by Victoria Weinberg.

Harlem Stage Announces Spring 2019 Performing Arts Season

Harlem Stage, the legendary uptown venue that for over 35 years has promoted the creative legacy of Harlem and artists of color from around the corner and across the globe, is proud to present its Spring 2019 season of performances. New Federal Theatre Has Dedicated Its November Readings Series To Ntozake Shange

Woodie King's New Federal Theatre has dedicated its November Readings Series to the memory of the late playwright Ntozake Shange, who died October 27.  The series, now in progress, has been retitled 'Ntozake Shange November Reading Series 2018.'  It runs from November 8 to 18, with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street. 

Alley Theatre Announces Programming for the 2019 Alley All New Festival and Reading Series

The Alley Theatre announces the line-up for the 2019 Alley All New Festival, January 18 - January 27, 2019. The fourth annual Festival will feature a world premiere production, readings and workshop performances of five new plays, as well as an Early Draft Preview of a new musical. Festival playwrights include Robert Askins, Hilary Bettis, Glen Berger, Chisa Hutchinson, Claire Kiechel, Don Nguyen, and Lawrence Wright. Special packages are available for the final weekend of the Festival and include prime seating at all presentations, exclusive artist access, and meals between performances. Advance reservations for individual events are recommended and can be made on November 26 at alleytheatre.org. All readings and workshop performances are free and open to the public.

Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre Sets November Readings Series

From November 8 to 18, Woodie King Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will present 'The November Readings Series,' with readings of eight plays at Castillo Theatre, 543 W 42nd Street.  This series is devoted to brilliant one- and two-character plays, a dramatic form that most theaters neglect.  It will be used to develop African-American writers and to select plays that New Federal Theatre may present as full productions in its 2019-20 season.  The lineup includes works by Trevor Rhone, Howard Craft, Edgar Nkosi White, J.E. Franklin, Ivy Omere, Larry Muhammad, Richie McCall and Reginald T. Jackson.  Suggested donation is $10 and tickets can be purchased at www.castillo.org. Premiere Stages At Kean University Announces 2018 Play Festival Finalists

Premiere Stages, the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University, has selected its four finalists for the 2018 Premiere Play Festival and will increase its cash awards for honored playwrights by one-third, the theatre announced today. Premiere Stages received a record 572 submissions for the festival, an annual competition for unproduced scripts that offers developmental opportunities to playwrights with strong affiliations to New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. The 572 submissions marked a 43% jump from 2017, and represented playwrights of all backgrounds and ages. For the first time in the festival's 14-year history, three of the four finalist scripts selected were requested from synopses submitted by playwrights.

Alley Theatre held its second annual new play festival - the 2017 Alley All New Festival from February 2-12- and a World Premiere of NSangou Njikam's Syncing Ink on February 8 2017. The festival included seven plays from playwrights including Robert Askins, Bekah Brunstetter and Rajiv Joseph.  The festival also welcomed more than 40 artists, including Suzanne Vega, Faith Prince and Josie de Guzman.
