Austin Shakespeare Presents PRIDE AND PREJUDICE at Long Center, Now thru 11/25

Kicking off subscriptions for its 29th Season, Austin Shakespeare announces Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice at the Long Center's intimate Rollins Theater tonight, Nov. 7-25. The professional (Actors' Equity) company brings back award-winning actress Liz Beckham now as the smart, delightful "Elizabeth Bennet." Beckham recently won the Austin Critics Table award Best Actor for the company's production of Tom Stoppard's Arcadia last spring.

L.A. Theatre Works Celebrates 200th Anniversary of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, 11/15-18

L.A. Theatre Works celebrates the 200th Anniversary of Pride and Prejudice with Christina Calvit's acclaimed stage adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel, returning from the first leg of a 25-venue national tour for five performances, Nov. 15-18, at UCLA's James Bridges Theater. There, the production will be recorded in front of a live audience for later broadcast on public radio and SiriusXM Satellite before heading back out on the road.

As part of the Bicentennial of Jane Austen's great novel, a production of "Pride and Prejudice" will be staged at the ADOBE Theater starting Sept. 14th. This brilliant adaptation tells of the Bennet family that hopes to arrange profitable marriages for their five daughters. Leslee Richards (who previously directed the excellent "Rabbit Hole" and "Talley's Folly") selected this acclaimed play (by Joseph Hanreddy and J. R. Sullivan) for her next project, assisted by choreographer Judith Chazin-Bennahum for some lively dances. A large cast in period costumes will perform the play that will run through Oct. 7. The mainstage productions are Deathtrap, Ira Levin's comic thriller (August 23 to September 23); The Crucifer of Blood, a Sherlock Holmes mystery by Paul Giovanni (October 4 to November 25); Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, adapted by Nagle Jackson (December 6-24); the Nunsense sequel Meshuggah-Nuns! by Dan Goggins (December 27 to January 27); the world premiere of Strictly Platonic, a comedy by local playwright Larry McKenna (February 7 to March 3); the classic French farce A Flea in Her Ear by Georges Feydeau (March 14 to April 28) and an original adaptation of Jane Austen's masterpiece Pride and Prejudice (May 9 to June 16).

Whole Backstage Theatre's Pride and Prejudice Closes

The Whole Backstage presents its winter season production of Pride and Prejudice through February 19 under the direction of Will Smith. Evening performances begin at 7:00 pm with Matinee's starting at 2:00 pm. This romantic comedy, by Jon Jory, based on Jane Austen's classic novel, is being directed by Will Smith of Guntersville, and features Jon Brown and Kayla Harper, both of Arab, in the lead roles. Ms. Harper is playing Elizabeth Bennet, the heroine on the story, while Mr. Brown portrays Mr. Darcy, her love interest.
