The "United Nations" of music, Silkroad Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary with an entirely new multi-media, evening-length work that unpacks the magnitude of being fearlessly human in the face of incompatible obligations. Heroes Take Their Stands, both the name of the program and an ambitious multimedia commission project, is performed on Sunday, April 28 at 7:00pm at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya).

The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) announced that the festival's opening night will be the screening of All is True directed by Kenneth Branagh on Friday, January 4. The festival will close with Ladies in Black, directed by Bruce Beresford on Sunday, January 13. The Festival will screen 223 films from 78 countries, including 48 premieres (4 World, 13 North American and 31 U.S.) from January 3-14, 2019. This morning, Film Independent announced the nominations for the 2019 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The Spirit Awards are the primary fundraiser for Film Independent's year-round programs, which cultivate the careers of emerging filmmakers and promote diversity in the industry. Film Independent President Josh Welsh presided over the press conference held at the W Hotel in Hollywood, with actors Gemma Chan and Molly Shannon presenting the nominations. The Orchard has acquired U.S. rights to the jazz-inspired drama THE SONG OF SWAY LAKE. Directed by Ari Gold (Adventures of Power), who co-wrote the film with Elizabeth Bull, the film stars Rory Culkin (Signs), Robert Sheehan (Geostorm) and Mary Beth Peil (Tony nominee for Anastasia). THE SONG OF SWAY LAKE will be released in theaters on September 21st and on VOD and Digital HD on September 25th.
