Christopher James is an American composer, producer (Paula Cole, Renée Fleming, Val Gardena) and ex-CEO of Universal Music Group’s Classical and Jazz division. An accomplished classical pianist, he earned a B.A. in Music and German Literature at Lewis and Clark College in his hometown of Portland, Oregon.
The video sees animated imagery and blasts of fuzzy static nod to the band’s DIY sensibilities. Reminiscent of a cut-and-paste punk zine plucked straight from the 1970s, the video sees two floating heads and hand-drawn, cataclysmic visuals put to music as The Velvet Hands deliver a broiling barrage of live-ready rock riffs.
Additionally, the first single and video from this work “Shine Your Light” is due out on July 29. Vonda spent the last couple of years writing and recording “Red Light, Green Light,” a stunning blend of songs produced by her husband Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Crowded House, Fleetwood Mac).

The Green-Wood Cemetery today announced that Gardens as Cosmic Terrains, the breathtaking installation by the Cemetery's first artist in residence, Heidi Lau, has been extended through July 10th. The acclaimed exhibit, inspired by Lau's explorations of the Cemetery, was created specially for the Catacombs, which are usually closed to the public.
